cmcintee
Hi I have a 1998 Mrk4 Golf 1.9 TDI and I was wondering if anyone knows what the intervals are for replacing the timing belt. Its just about to turn 160K!!! Cheers, Maxi

aaabbb
Every 40,000 miles or 4 year whichever comes first. I think this is right wouldnt know for sure without checking the engine code.
Mook
First change is 60K in the service book. I have always had them done every 40K miles after that (i.e. 100K, 140K), then every 20K once they get beyond that. It sounds like overkill, but it only costs about £200 and it's a shed load better than the alternative - bent valves, reskimmed head, replacement pistons etc. If you've not already done it, get it done asap
