R32North
How many of you GTi owners visit other parts of TSN. Looks to me like a few seem to live within the VW / GTi forums and not venture outside. Come on guys look in on other areas!!
silentandy
Yep, I post lots of random cr@p in many of the parts of TSN
RedRobin
I have looked in other forums but I'm too focussed on the GTI and its relative the new R32. I also feel I have more to both contribute to and learn from in the VeeDub forums.
mixit
I check out "TLOJ" now and again and "General Cars" but mostly lurk here, where it's warm, cuddly and familiar.
aswall
I'm on far too many forums (fora?) so only come to the GTI page, and even then no more than 4-5 times a week now that there isn't really anything new to discuss any more
petsy
I lure here and on the cleaning, tuning and R32 forums.
mu71rd
well for all of you who don't like to venture outside, here is a post of mine that I put in the 'general cars' forum that you can look at. It was started by me, so should be suitably warm, cuddly and familiar. what car should my old man buy?

NewNiceMrMe
Venture into the Lounge of Joy boys (and girls if there are any). Plenty of reasoned debate (and lots of angered debate on occasion!), plenty of laughs, shared opinion and recommendations on a whole host of buying possibilities outside of the motoring world. Go on, open the door a bit...have a look at what else if on offer, it's worth it.

RedRobin
I think we all already realise that "Main Index" at the top of every page takes us there. And also we can use the rollover bar at bottom right hand side of every page. Assuming we want to.

CarMad
Are you trying to get the GTI boys to look at other forums. Don't be silly if they need cleaning advice they have to find it here not go to a forum where it is talked about constantly, same for Hifi etc. Sorry only winding you all up. I think I spent the first week or so lurking around the A3 forum... and then I saw the light. Lets not forget the GTI and A3 2.0T are almost the same, pop in there am sure people might need your help from time to time on similar issues. Right off to look around in other forums. RedRobin
Yes, I have occasionally offered 'help'/advice/info in both the Audi forum and, more recently, the R32 forum where the new Mk5 is being discussed. Those considering a new R32 would gain quite a bit of useful info in this GTI forum here....It works both ways. I don't agree that the Audi A3 2.0T and GTI are "almost the same" at all but I'll check it out again. The biggest reason I no longer contribute to the 'MkIVUKetc' site is that their Mk5 forum is all mixed up with posts about the whole Mk5 range - I find that confusing and tedious and what I like about this forum is that it's very focussed. Also, whereas it's great that we all have some fun in our discussions, some of the other forums don't discuss the specific car enough. Still, the great thing is that TSN's structure allows us to visit where we feel happiest - in my case it's very obviously here - at least for the time being. Mollox
[ QUOTE ] I think we all already realise that "Main Index" at the top of every page takes us there. The "Main Index" link remembers your chosen preference from the main www.tyresmoke.net front page, so if in the past you've chosen "VW" then your cookie remembers this and filters out other forums in future. Not nannying anyone but you have to appreciate its a bit " " from a moderator point of view when you guys are asking generic questions about things like cleaning/tom toms etc when we have forums all about these things and the very things you're asking are/have already being/been discussed and often answered in there! TSN works on Specific Joy and Group Joy - we just want to make the site as useful as possible for everyone, and keeping content in the most logical place not only gets faster answers but makes the site more useful to all
RedRobin
On my system (Safari on Mac OS 10.4.3 - latest), "Main Index" always loads the full list of all forums. However, I currently choose to load the GTI forum as my homepage because it saves time and it's what I'm currently interested in. Additionally I have the R32 forum bookmarked because they are now discussing the Mk5 version and I think I have something to offer. Quite honestly, although I do visit the other forums I don't feel the need too often or have much to exchange in them. I see your point but I don't completely agree with you about what you are terming as generic....Most often subjects like cleaning and SatNav etc etc are discussed here very much in the context of the GTI. I'm not wishing to spend time trawling through loads of threads in other forums to find how best to install something in the GTI when all the GTI experts are in here. For example, the whole iPod subject regarding installation in the GTI is best discussed here imo and not in a separate audio forum. I'm not wishing to be awkward but just giving you honest feedback from my user/member point of view. Others here may feel differently from myself. TSN is the best car site on the web btw Cheers, Robin
GTiMK5
[ QUOTE ] Most often subjects like cleaning and SatNav etc etc are discussed here very much in the context of the GTI. [/ QUOTE ] So is there a special way of cleaning the GTI that is different to any other car?
RedRobin
....Not entirely, but the consideration of the particular paintwork finish, be it factory finish or dealer's protective finish, is 'special' to the GTI or, to be more accurate, of 'special' interest to the GTI owner and hence more relevantly discussed here. By coincidence, a topic called "Dirty Arse" has just been opened....About dirt and cleaning....specifically the GTI. GTI owners are much more likely to miss this discussion if it appeared in the Cleaning forum.....I most certainly would! Need I explain my views why other subjects such as aftermarket SatNav are better discussed here?
faidilah
i reckon GTI owners should feel free to post as they see fit here.. if it's of no interest to me, then i simply won't respond, live and let live i say...
RedRobin
....I totally agree and that's exactly why I am resisting the view that certain subjects are better discussed in other forums. I understand Mollox's Moderator's viewpoint but I would be seriously peed off if he decided to move some of the discussion threads. It's as you say, we each only respond as we wish and live and let live. I prefer to live in this GTI forum.
GTiMK5
Disagree with that. There are certain things that are specific to the GTI but cleaning is definitely generic as are many other things. The GTI gets dirty the same as any other car and is cleaned the same way as any other car, nothing special about it at all. Posting in the right place helps everybody out. This is a great board provided for us for free. There are certain rules etc and they should be followed. If a moderator moves a post they are doing so for the benefit of other users. If every type of car owner discussed the same topic in their own forum then things would definitely be repeated and this is going to use more bandwidth etc that somebody is paying for. Also, by posting in the correct place, it allows others who may not have a GTI and so not looking in this particular forum the chance to add their views and so help everybody. VW did not re-invent the wheel with the GTI, it is just a car like any other, it gets cleaned the same, satnav and stereos work the same in it, tyres are the same as on any other car etc etc.
RedRobin
I've never been someone to follow someone else's rules....I make my own mind up. Is bandwidth really a big issue here? - I stand to be corrected, but it certainly shouldn't be with broadband deals. Whereas I can see the logic in cleaning being mostly generic it isn't all generic as I have explained and I strongly disagree with you about the rest. The Mods will move what they see fit to move and I'll go where I want to go and respect your right to do the same.
GTiMK5
Red, An example. I never go in the A3 forum but I do go in the Tuning forum, if they were discussing tuning/remapping in the A3 forum I would not see it but if it is in the Tuning forum as it should be I would see it. This sort of info can benefit everybody as you learn more about different methods, different tuning companies etc. The actual remapping of a car may well be specific to each car but how it is done, who it is done by etc is not. Another example is your pioneer satnav, that is not specific to the GTI, it is an aftermarket fit and will fit in many different types of car. I know the way it fits may vary slightly from car to car but everything else will be pretty much the same. It is just my personal opinion that this way we all benefit more.
