dogbucket
Both my front doors (3dr) make little creaking noises as I drive along and it is starting to wind me up. I seem to remember somebody mentioned greasing up the door rubbers in someway, anybody know the details?
Dan32
I can't remember any names, but there are silicone sprays you can buy for rubber to prevent it drying out. Any automotive spares shop should sell something so you can eliminate that in case its something else.
Mook
Whatever you do, don't use any oil based lubricants (WD40 etc.) or it will degrade the rubber
Zenyck100
my doors do exactly the same. just rev the V6 so you cant hear the creaks!!
calumcousins
I just use some bog standard grease, and put a bit on the door rubber attached to the front top part of the doors, and a bit on the rubber seal that it makes contact with on the door frame itself. You DONT need to grease up the soft rubber seal though that runs around the whole door, its not this thats creaking, trust me!
Mook
Grease and rubber don't like each other Calum. Try using some silicone spray instead, or the rubber will degrade.
calumcousins
oops...! oh well... learn from my mistake then, dont use grease!
dogbucket
well I put synthetic grease on the door hinges and the top door rubber and it still does it its sort of like a short 'crack' noise, going over bumps or braking/accelerating. Passenger door has always done it a bit, but now its got cold the drivers door has started. guess its inside the door which could be hard to pin down
Zenyck100
personally i think its the flex in the body which causes the creaking in the door area. now its colder i notice it alot more. i first thought it was the seals, but after investigating i think different. The R32 suspension doesnt have much give in it and i think it causes the body to flex a little. i aint no expert but i think it makes some sense. calumcousins
ah ha...i know what you're on about, mine does this too sometimes. I have found however that when its been in for a service, it seems to go away, and i put this down to them lube-ing the door latch/mech i think. Try putting a small amount of the aforementioned grease on the door latch hook thing on the door frame and see what happens - i've found the noise goes away after doing this. Im bound to be told now that i shouldn't have been doing this, so id wait for a response from someone else first!
dogbucket
I ran a soapy sponge round all the door rubbers when I washed her yesterday, and so far it seems to have stopped doing it on the drivers side. Just the occassional noise from the passenger side but I can live with that.
