Who has Quattro?

Quattro is fantastic.

I was concerned about getting it for the first time as it was said that it saps 20% of the power, reduces 0-60 times etc etc, which is true.

However, that loss is totally offset by the amount of traction you have in most circumstances. Roundabouts, curving country lanes, even off the lights (I should know better I know!) all show exactly what this AWD system can do.

In my mind its a safety thing, in my previous BMW's the slightest bit of wet and the back end would be very twitchy, and the traction light was always coming on, making it difficult to enjoy driving the things.

After all the A4's we have had, I think I have now got the hang of quattro driving, putting all the power down, 4 wheel drifts, understeer correction etc, and I am so much happier.

I will never go back to a RWD or FWD car again and feel that the extra money spent is well worth it for both fun, and also year round safety.

I couldn't agree more. My A4, which is the first Audi I've owned, has Torsen quattro and I wouldn't ever buy another expensive car without it. Those tired old clichés about 'corners like it's on rails' and 'sticks to the road like glue' definitely apply - corners just seem to disappear when you plant your foot, even in the wet. im sure my quattro will alow me to go to work in the snow... (damm)

Yes it would.

BUT - A word of warning to all you Quattro newbie's .....

I had a nasty little 'moment' earlier this year when the back end stepped out on me. I was turning into a side road that had a slight incline as I straightened up I gassed it (thinking I would mostly go forwards) but instead the back spun up and stepped out. Now the surface was pretty fresh compacted snow, so not much traction. I hit the brakes and gave the hand brake a tug and straightened out of it but it was close blush.gif (to hitting a parked car.Speed no more than 15-20 mph. I put it down to me being ham-fisted, the slope and fat tyres.

When I got to work I vented my anger in the car park and had a lot of fun doing 180’s and doughnuts.

I hope this will stop some of you getting too carried away on the road in the snow........ NONO3.GIF
