Kenwood Music Keg & Audi Concert Head Unit

Recommended Posts

There is "firmware" (actually software) on the cartridge that makes them work in various cars - I imagine you would have to reload the firmware to makke it an Audi unit - guess you could always load the Kenwood firmware back on it if it doesn't work - but have never tried this (only updated my Phatnoise firmware)

Yes you can get a Kenwood keg to work with a Concert II head unit I have just done the reverse changed my concert II head unit to a Kenwood and modified my Audi Phatnoise to a Keg.

All you need to do is change the firmware to Audi on the DMS & buy new cables or make your own.

All Phatbox/Keg use a 3M 26 pin connector its just different pins and number of wires used at the plug that connects to the keg along with the firmware that determine Kenwood, Sony or VW/Audi etc.

Certain electrical differences do exist between the Keg dependent on which one (KHDC710 or KHDCX91) and the Phatnoise but this relates to DAC & the audio quality not how it interfaces or connects with the head unit.

The Kenwood Firmware is the same for both & works on my Audi Phatbox & the VW/Audi firmware will work on the keg.

The keg comes with a USB 1 cradle and the Audi Comes with USB 2 for faster transfer of music to the DMS.

A good Source of information is http://www.phathack.com/ the forum is very good (but will be offline on Sunday 22 for a few hours) including how to upgrade the Hard drive in the DMS.

Unless you have already got a Keg you can usually find Audi/VW Phatnoise cheaper if you are prepared to ship from the USA.
