JasonP
Just had my front pads and discs replaced by my local specialists, took him just over an hour to do, labour charge was £45 incl VAT, total price £395 incl VAT including a wash as well!!! Compare this to my old car (A4 2.5tdi quattro). Just before I bought it, the previous owner had his done at Swindon Audi, just fronts again and it cost £700+. The mileage on both cars was about 45k and the discs on both had warped, is about 45k standard for this ?
BenjaminTDI
That's still a huge amount of money! Hmm 45k is not long for discs to last I don't think, you must have been braking quite hard when the pads were low, then they heated up and warped the discs - same thing has happened to me before. BenjaminTDI
I saw those on audizine. They look amazing. But I would only bother if I was doing lots of track days, but I doubt that's going to happen with the tractor.

Phantom
Jese, £700 for front discs and pads , I am not looking forward to my next service then in about 2k miles. I need those as well, along with a new cambelt too ! I have done 75k now and I have just started to hear the odd random noise when braking, it does sound as though the discs are slightly warped. Oh well paying the price for loadsa motorway miles
P_G
If you've got that money floating around DJBS4 then you could also make a donation to me favourite charity, the Crusade Against Suffering and Hardship known as C.A.S.H.! Think I'll stick to the ECS disks ScoTTy has when the time comes to change.

Sports cats first on Saturday, pedals next. Going slightly off thread v.quickly, where did you get your door trims colour coded DJBS4 and what's the financial damage? nicknick
£700 for just front discs and pads !! Don't have the paperwork here but I'm sure I only paid £400 for front and rear discs and pads on my A6 2.5Tdi Quattro and that was at Audi ....will have to double check - maybe they screwed up .. Mind you - just had Audi quote £136 to fit new rear brake pads. Price for pads from Audi is £30.85 ...so over £105 for labour just to fit the pads !!(and that's whilst the car is in having a service as well ..so it's already on the ramps) And also £182 to fit a front outer CV Boot. The price for that kit is £24 ...so they want nearly £160 labour for a job that is going to cost me about £40 labour at local garage (and another £20 for the pads labour )... bravog
[ QUOTE ] and that's whilst the car is in having a service as well ..so it's already on the ramps [/ QUOTE ] But they don't take the wheels off when they do the service, or at least they didn't on my A4's first(18k) service. I took the wheels off to fit my winter tyres a week after the service and the alloys were siezed onto the hubs! So what exactly did they do for their £300??? Look through the alloys and go "yeah, disks and pads are fine ". F*&^ me, even I can do that... Stealers!
nicknick
What gets me is the variation in pricing... Initially I thought it must be down to differences in hourly rates as the jobs are all preset but that went out the window when an oil change was £100 more between my two local dealers who are less than 20 miles apart. Now I think they just make up prices. Take todays service...annual service was £200, which is £50 less than I paid last year at the alternate local dealers...so I think I'm doing well.. But then cheaper dealer quotes £160 labour to replace offside outer CV Boot...yet last year at more expensive dealer labour was only £80 for the same job on the nearside CV boot....so unless offside is somehow different to nearside they've got to be having a laugh... Think my time at dealers is over !!.....
