winrya
Had my GTI since saturday and its actually better than i expected and i had very high expectations. The power is the thing that really shocked me, this thing really flies! Right i've noticed that when i unlock the car in the dark it turns the headlights on automatically, this i'm finding quite annoying, especially when i pop out to grab a cd at night!! Can i disable this? Anyone notice the clutch is a little difficult to make a low rev pull off in 1st gear and reversing? Sometimes at slow speeds when turning i notice a slight rumble through the steering wheel/clutch pedal, is this something to do with the power steering rack problems? These things are probably normal but thought i would ask you knowledgable people anyway. Now i need another excuse to drive somewhere, mmm i have some relatives in oxford maybe time for a visit Thanks Ryan
petsy
the headlights are a coming home feature. do you know the build date of your car as cars made prior to beginning of january this year suffered with a steering noise especially when turning left at slow speed. allanon_1980
coming home lights can be changed I think only if youve the highline computer. Yours obviously has the same problem with the rack as mine and yes the clutch takes some getting used to !!! enjoy

winrya
Thanks, to be honest if this is as bad as the steering rack problem is going to get then i'll just wait until the service to get it sorted. Also guys i noticed its not the nicest sounding engine when you first start it (first second or 2) very rattly and it seems to need a good turn of the key? Is that the norm, after a couple of secs its perfect and probably the best overall engine i have ever used. Thanks
rogerlomman
[ QUOTE ] it seems to need a good turn of the key? Thanks [/ QUOTE ] That's normal I think. High pressure fuel pump is mechanically driven and needs a few cranks to get to operating pressure.
Simonl
mine is like that sometimes. Those VAG turbo engines do tend to sound like deisels when they start up.

bal5sidhu
Got mine yesterday and its the same - almost like a diesel on idle and low revs. Does it get better with more miles?

bal5sidhu
Fair enough - plenty of more enjoyable aspects of the car to focus on!
Stabb
Make sure you run the best fuel you can get, and yes it does get better with age....I'm approaching 20k kilo's and it is better and pulls harder. SOmething to look forward to!
bal5sidhu
It'll be Optimax with occasional BP ultimate (in times of need!)and nothing less. Let the miles roll on

winrya
Thats brilliant thanks for all the answers, nice to know everything is normal. Problem i have now is the mrs keeps going out for drives. She was off work today so i left the car with her. I rang home to no reply, she rang back later said she couldnt resist another drive. She absolutely loves it, but tbh its hard not to. Have to say i was expecting similar performance to my mates civic type r but this car wipes the floor with it- god i love turbo power. Also on the mrs day off she bought me one of those flash car washes, has anyone tried one, looks like an impressive piece of kit Regards Ryan

I think they're good to give the car a final rinse with (you need to do this for ages btw), but the cost of the refills is pretty high imho. Stabb
Ryan mate! You have to nip that 'mrs taking the car out for a spin' stuff - before you know it you can never find the keys and there's never petrol in the car....etc! But if you handed out drives sparingly she'll consider it a treat and reward you!!!
RedRobin
Invest in a Meguiars Lambswool Wash Mitt and Magnet Cloth and check out the TSN Cleaning forum. The Flash unit is okay for hose rinse finishing but I hardly ever need it. Is yours a Manual or DSG, Ryan?
