Audi Dealer & my A4

Yet again my A4 is taking another trip to the dealers.

I bought it less than 12 months ago, under the approved used Audi scheme, so far i have lost count of the times it has been back. The latest is a strange noise that seems to be in some way related to engine noise. Its a 2.0l Petrol but the noise although not really loud, is loud enough, it kinda puts me in mind of what a diesel sounds like. The noise gets louder as the air temperature outside drops, so on cold days it is louder than say on a hot day.

I took it to Audi last week who did confirm they could hear something, but they have little ideas as to what it is, so now it has to back for 2 DAYS!!! for them to try diagnose it.

So my question is this,

1, anyone any ideas what it is?

2, what the hell are they going to do that takes 2 days??

3, Is the 2.0l engine a bad buy (for future reference) Its not the FSi one.

Its starting to worry me a little now, the noise doesnt seem anything obvious, but the warranty runs out in April so i need it sorting quickly.

shame you are having a bad time mate. I bought my A4 avant 1.9TDi on the approved scheme just under 12 months ago - i havent had a single thing apart from a bulb go wrong with it in 20,000 miles....

2.0 is a dog of an engine. It's still an Audi - it should be relaiable, but its very underpowered and should never have been offered in the A4....

Stick with it and pressurise them into doing something. If you are not happy, rant like hell and try and swap for a 1.8T or a 1.9TDi

Good luck! 169144-ok.gif

This a common fault?

It seems strange that its louder with the cold weather, engine temperature has no affect on it so i would assume the engine isnt falling to pieces, it has only got 30k on it too so it shouldnt be.

The cam chain adjuster i mean?

Camshaft Chain Adjuster perhaps :S The 2.0 engines are fairly reliable. It's the 2.0 FSi thats the problem!

How come Nelson? My previous A3 had a 2.0 FSI engine and that had afew problems. Its good having an Audi tech on here 169144-ok.gif
