hotdog
Spotted today in Stevenage, a Merc C320 saloon, KL02 CWO unmarked traffic car! Herts Police seem to have a liking for expensive motors!
fjfr
Stratyclyde have a C class (don't know the engine),an ML and a 5 series that cruooze the mean streets of Glasgow on a friday/sat night.
cruiser647
Herts Finest have MANY marked Merc E & ML's too! (the odd marked BM and as you say HotDog, many unmarked C's) Hey, lets be careful out there!

njc851
it always amazes me how much of my taxes are spanked away on flash cars for coppers!! Do they need a rangerover? will a discovery not do? if you want fast get fast, not luxurious and fast! i think a fleet of vectras would suffice, and save enough money for more police to be emplyed, off topic rant over!! P_G
Durham Constabulary are the worst, the fleet includes; 2x Mercedes ML500 4x BMW 5 series (2x540i 2x 535D) 2x C55 AMG Estates 2 x unmarked Ducatti's (couldn't tell what, they were going too fast) Unmarked Porsche C4S Unmarked EVO 9 And that's just the ones I've seen. But fair play to them, at least they don't have speed cameras in Durham.

Ari
i doubt any used traffic car is worth much when it's disposed of. Plus, you physically couldn't lose as much on a £15K Vectra as you would on a Range Rover, even if you threw the Vectra in a skip when you'd finished with it! I agree, why do they need exec cars? njc851
do they do a fast vectra, they must do?? a vxr , estate if they need to put cones n stuff in it, no more than 22k each, that 2 for the price of one range rover, running costs as well, maybe 29mpg against 12/13? i might send a letter to mr blair, this could help with the economy i cannot believe that they have 911 police cars!! an evo 9? amazing!! they probably have an order in for 2 bugattis too. when will this madness stop? i dont think depreciation of a vauxhall is justification, but lets say it is, then get vw passat, or an audi avant, but christ? if someone is speeding they will be suffish to catch them, i might get the application form up, can i specify durham and traffic section? Smudge
A lot of the car Manu's are desperate to have their cars used, as it's seen as a "our cars are that good" though I did note that AS said Merc have changed their feelings on this & are going to stop. My Brother in Law has just taken delivery of an unmarked 535d in Strathclyde, but it's come with 16" wheels totally fecking the handling dynamics of the car. BMW have employed a special technician just for Strathclyde Police (it could be the same for all other forces) to ensure they get the most out of the cars, understand exactly how the cars dynamics work etc etc etc. Stuart said the only reason he liked the 535 was that BMW can't remove the radio from the dash to replace it with their own units, and at present it's still connected. Makes parking up in layby with your laser more entertaining I guess! He's frequently at the Strathclyde Traffic Division training centre, in Tully Allen iirc, and they get given all sorts for training in, even M3's. Don't forget, they don't pay anything near list for them.
garcon magnifique
It's amazing what you can haul off a motorway with a Range Rover. No need to wait for recovery trucks, save £'000s getting the road flowing quicker. Some cars they choose seem a bit daft, but in general you have to remember these cars need to be quick, and big enough to carry all the necessary clobber, and comfortable enough to spend all day every day in them - there have been many reports of back problems for officers who've sat in Vauxhalls all day, very few for those sat in Volvos all day. If I was a force fleet buyer I'd stick with Octavias, V70s and RRs.
njc851
ok , i will allow volvos, and discoveries, but not 911s, not range rovers, not evo9s!! comfort is fair enough, as is the towing aspect that you mentioned. does chief inspector really need a brand new lexus LS? i think not!! they'll be driving humvees and maybachs next! pontyslapper
South Wales Police seem to have come into money in a big way lately...' 1 X Lexus 4x4 Several x Mercedes Coupe/Saloons at least 1 x EX TOURING CAR Prepared Mondeo (ST base) Loads of Focuses All in SILVER - whats that all about - plods are supposed to buzz about in unmarked or WHITE to give us a chance. The silver kind of blends in which is hardly fair despite the battenburg markings.
P_G
Silver is to increase the resale value so I have been led to believe as London Met do the same now. They command a better premium at auction to white cars. But I think some of it may be for them to be more inconspicuous.
