iclarke
Bit worried that my lights are not adjusted correctly. They seem quite 'high' on dipped beam and I have been flashed by on coming traffic a couple of times tonight. Could there be something wrong or am I just not used to Xenons ... bloody impressive light output I have to say !
BenjaminTDI
They probably seem high because the beam length is huge with xenons. Don't worry about oncoming traffic, they always flash when you're in a car with xenons! Unless the light is pointing in their face, don't worry! PocketRocket
Whats the difference between xenons and bi-xenons? Are they always blue? or could be white?
BenjaminTDI
I think that xenons are only dipped bi-xenons are on dipped AND full beams I am not certain this is the case though.
Paul
xenon is just dipped. Bi xenon is the same bulb (dipped) but also has a electrically operated shutter in front, that changes beam pattern for main beam.
DukeDesmo
Well my Xenons (single) always seem too 'low' to me, still good though.
Gren
Yep been flashed a few times - people thinking they're on full beam. Has lessened lately - maybe people are getting used to xenon equipped cars now. They can be adjusted (on the normal xenons anyway)- there's a screw thingy behind the bulbs. Pidge
I thought xenon's on an A3 were dipped only?
doogal1972
The 8L A3 has single xenons (dipped only) but I don't know if the new A3 has bi-xenons or not? xenons are self leveling but if you have a major problem with the angle they are set at I think a stealer will help you out, for a not so small fee. I've had cars stick their full beams at me thinking mine are on full only for me to give them a little taste of full beam and then they dip them again. Xenons are annoying if you don't have them as they seem too bright. But once you've had them nothing else will do!

[/ QUOTE ] Interesting, I have the Bi Xenons too and I'm getting flashed as well - this the 4th car I've owned with Xenon lamps and first one that gets repeatedly flashed. I actually wonder if the light chamber reflector scatters a lot of light? For the record a Xenon headlamp produces around 3000 ansi lumens of light (in the blue white spectrum which is close to that of daylight) whilst consuming just 35w of power. In comaprison an H4 halogen produces 1500 ansi lumens of yellow light and needs 65w of power. Driving with Xenon lights is like have your first car with air-con, it is really hard to go back..... khufu
I agree. I retro fitted Xenon to my A3 and would hate to go back. They are technically illegal as they dont have washers or are self levelling but I keep them set to the lowest level unless the roads are empty or my speed is "creeping up". I sometimes get flashed, once on a bend when I was "motoring on" and lost sight of the road doing 70 round a bend . The thing is, I got flashed more in my GF's ford KA and its lights sucked big time so who really knows!
PocketRocket
Hey Khufu, did you install a conversion kit or did you replace the whole lamps?
