seaco
Anyone know if it's possible to change my 2005 A3 from xenon to bi xenon is it just a different bulb?
Paul
no its not, the bulb remains the same. its an electrically operated shutter mechanism in front of the bulb. so the whole module holding the projector is different, along with internal wiring. when you flick on main beams the shutter moves electrically via solenoid to change the beam pattern. whilst the bulb stays on all the time. usually backed up by a main beam halogen. Halogen is there to add light, and also to the headlight flash bit when the xenons are off.
davidhodgkinson
When i was looking at putting xenons on the A3, I found Xenon lamps with a main beam "divertor/mechanism" built in. I don't know if they are still available
Paul
careful its not the manual lever operated shutter for changing beam when driving abroad. Two completely different things.

Paul
Once you have seen the bi xenon module, and whats acutally involved to make it bi- xenon its daft anything is made without it. Im sure it will slowly become the norm. It really cant add much to manufacture.
khufu
this is a thing I had wondered about. Ok, it takes time for Xenon to "flicker on" but I tried to think of a way of having them on all the time but controlling the output with an aperture like on SLR camera
Paul
Adaptive lighting just moves up down/left to right and is very articulate. Usually paired with a cornering light. I think somone made speed sensitive lighting as some point ie 30mph short /wide beam, hurtling along at 60+ long narrow one. i can oly assume some sort of iris or apperture was used.
