Torino101
In the dim and distant past, if you wer insured fully comprehensively on a car, it gave you the right (with the owners permission), to drive another car with 3rd party insurance. I think it was originally designed for emergency situations whereby if you had to drive someone elses car you had some form of protection. What is the exact ruling on this now?? I can't beleive this is still the case. Otherwise people would take advantage of this by being able to drive for example a friends supercar, without having to get any separate insurance - as they would be automatically covered 3rd party. scooby_simon
But 3rd party only; no fire, no theft. So if they crash it, they pay the 1000's to the mate to fix it and if it got nicked !

The 3rd party insurance on any car only applies to any car that is already insured by someone else.
Insurance Jon
nope....it only covers the named driver for theft, so if the last person to drive wasn't on the policy or they got jacked it's hard cheese.
Insurance Jon
on the original point it was nothing to do with being fully comp. Any policyholder was granted this, subject to occupation (i. not a motor trader), regardless of their level of cover. Insurers are looking to phase this out over the next 24 months though

[/ QUOTE ] Mate, i'm 18 aswell, what Mk is it? Mk3 GTi's upwards are something called Catagory H (i think, if i'm wrong someone correct me!!) and it means you can't insure it full stop til you 21. Its something to do with it being a perfomance car. I think a Mk2 will be ok tho. Any thats why i've got a Mk3 1.8 Driver But Mk2 GTi's are like insurance group 16 so your gona get hammered no matter what! The annoying this is the higher up the Mk's you go, the lower the group is, but they have catergorys stopping us drive them, well as far as i understand it anyway. Insurance Jon
almost right, each insurer has term codes (either numbers or letters) following the group. This detmermines the minimum requirements for them to insure it. These terms can be age, security or area related.
