lottiefox
Saw these at the Autosport show - spoke with one the sales guys there and he said there might be a trade in possibility if you've got an existing Road Angel and subscription. He said to call them when the Plus is released. Like the look of no wires.
Paul
wonders if its rechargeable. Or if you have to keep pratting about taking batteries in and out to feed/charge the thing. I quite like the compact myself. Dont see much point in the laser side of things it will only get banned. Might look into those front parking sensors. Si_GTi
I'd be interested in a Road Angel Compact - I saw them at Autosport too and I like the look of them, plus like Paul-S3 I believe that it's only a matter of time before laser detectors are outlawed... Helfinger, do you think you could arrange a GB with the option for either model, the Plus and/or the Compact? Cheers
Paul
wonders if road angel will tempt me away from my ageing Geodesy. I was holding out for something new from roadpilot, but that colour screen micro go, is a let down, the bracket arangement is awful.

I've been thinking about buying one as I liked the size and colour options with it. I'd like to see one in real life and hear how loud the voice warnings are, though. I've got a demo A4 2.0T FSI quattro S-Line for the weekend from the local dealer and it has a Road Angel fitted. Seems to work well but it's not the best looking thing in the world, stuck in the centre of the windscreen. It's also not exactly the eaiest thing to conceal in your pocket when you leave the car. It's probably me, but when it starts flashing away, I find it really hard to read what's on the display; not enough contrast, maybe? How reliable have you found the RoadPilot/Geodesy database updates? Up until now I've been using the PocketGPS database on TomTom 5. Cheers, Matthew
Paul
ive been happy with the geodesy. Its been perfect. Ive been waiting for something new from roadpilot for a while, as i intended to stay loyal and upgrade. Sven and I campaigned for them to make a micro road pilot with a red, or at least switchable screen to match the red Audi dash, anongst other manufacturers. They snubbed us. They have now taken this on board with the MicroGo, Now i havent seen one first hand, and I will admit that their site pictures are at best crap photoshops. What dissapointed me was the bloody awful bracket mounting they have used with flip up style antenna. could they have made it more clumsey. Pictures here. peterb
[ QUOTE ] How reliable have you found the RoadPilot/Geodesy database updates? Up until now I've been using the PocketGPS database on TomTom 5. [/ QUOTE ] I've been using the RoadPilot Pro for almost three years now and I find the database to be pretty good. I had a RoadAngel Navigator for a couple of weeks, but returned it as 'not fit for purpose'. The user interface was appalling, the device wouldn't even initialise unless it could obtain a GSM fix within 30 seconds - I once spent nearly half an hour trying to get it to start before I gave up and went to find a paper map. To cap it all, the camera database seemed to be rather inaccurate, particularly in respect of the reported speed limits. I do have a TomTom Go 700 for use in the cars without built-in Nav. I have no particular problems with the database (was the free one from PocketGPS, but I gather that there are plans to start charging). What I'm not keen on is the way in which the TomTom warns about the cameras - the RoadPilot can be configured for a speed-dependant warning distance, and only warns of cameras which are on your current course and facing your direction of travel. Perhaps I haven't played with the settings enough, but I find that if I set a reasonable 'early warning distance' the thing bleats about cameras in any direction. This means that I have to keep looking at the screen to see whether the warning relates to a camera I'm about to pass, or one that's half a mile away from the road I'm on. This means that my attention gets diverted all the time, and I start to ignore the warnings. The upshot is that I now take the RoadPilot in whichever car, use the TomTom for navigating and the RoadPilot for speed camera warnings.
