stevie_d
This mainly goes to people who have remapped theirs, but I'm interested in the first dyno run, i.e. how much bhp were you making as standard. After reading Evo and a few other mags I reckon that most of the GTI's are kicking out about 210bhp with optimax. I thought it would be interesting to see if this is the case for the TSN crowd. Cheers p.s. that halves the power "advantage" of the Focus ST
garcon magnifique
[ QUOTE ] p.s. that halves the power "advantage" of the Focus ST [/ QUOTE ] Except that it is equally likely the ST enjoys a similar increase over quoted BHP using Optimax... garcon magnifique
Quite possibly. Subaru always seemed rather conservative in their quoted figures for the Impreza. The earliest version was quoted at 208bhp, but Prodrive said they saw an average of around 220bhp on cars they had in for mods, and anything from around 250 to 280 with the same filter/exhaust/chip upgrade. encee
My GTI was running at 205 bhp, before re-map, and Jim at Awesome GTI, who tuned it, told me that it was "quite good", as most were in the very low 200`s. For your info, mine was halfway through its second tank of BP Ultimate, that I`ve been putting in since the Evo fuel article. I was quite happy with the 205 figure, (as standard), and felt quite fortunate that mine seems to be a "good `un". (I am aware that Evo found theirs running at 214 bhp on Ultimate though, but am satisfied enough to believe Jim, who is tuning them every day )
Ballistic
Encee What difference do you find it makes running on one of the higher octane fuels? Whats your oppinion oi the re-map and how much do they charge?
RedRobin
Paul-S3 has posted a very interesting vid about fuel comparisons: here Bottom line is how she feels when you drive! I reckon that Optimax plus my Milltek Hi-flow collectively gives improved throttle response plus a few more neddies but all I care about is that she feels great to drive and I can hear her breathing healthily. Just my opinion.
joffan
Mines running at 205 BHP on BP Ultimate,no Shell where I live.

petsy
This question on whether on not supermarket petrol is good or bad normally crops up every now and then. IMO if you run a high-performance car then you should steer clear.
jonathansargent
came across this http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=57&h=&t=221733 not scientific but interesting. roy32 in another forum http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/show...&PHPSESSID= says he has been running his R32 on tescos 99 for months... mikemod
Here's a link to the people that make the tesco stuff Clicky. Don't have it in NI yet and no Optimax here either. Have been running on Sainsbury's 97. Tried BP ultimate, which we can get, absolutly no difference in performance so back to Sainbury's. The car seems to have had an extra 20 BHP since it went over 10000 miles, maybe its just the cold weather.

Whats your oppinion oi the re-map and how much do they charge? [/ QUOTE ] To be honest, I can`t really give a comparison on higher octane v normal fuels, as I only use higher octane anyway. The re-map. I`m sure some on here are now sick of hearing about my re-map , but it is brilliant, and is well worth doing. The power and torque increase is quite something else, and, whilst remaining linear, pretty much like the GTI`s normal power output, it feels like it`s now on steroids, as there`s just so much more poke.........everywhere ! It cost me £700 (inc. vat) to get it done, but I believe it`s now gone down £100 (that`s life, I suppose). Anyway, get it done, it`s well worth the money, I promise. ROYLANCE
Encee Took you're advice on Re-map My Mk 5 just back from AMD 205bhp on Dyno with BP Ultimate Now 251bhp on dyno after AMD Stage 1 Its awsome !!
RedRobin
Does the power come in suddenly and only at higher revs or is it progressively smooth from lower revs?

stevie_d
Sounds awesome! AmD are great aren't they, a little more expensive than others, but a better service and, as you can see, brilliant results

[/ QUOTE ] ....I would def go and visit AmD before a final decision but personally I'm extremely cautious about any re-mapping of my DSG GTI and would be concerned about any warranty issues. I've driven more than one 270 bhp GTI including one modded for track and find those re-mapped GTIs smooth but I'm currently very happy with my GTI with modded suspension and Milltek. I personally would be more interested in paying for a Car Control Course.
simkna
Absolutely Red - there's a lot more to be gained by investment in the driver than the car. It also has the advantage that it's an investment for life... not the life of the car. Si.
stevie_d
[ QUOTE ] I personally would be more interested in paying for a Car Control Course. [/ QUOTE ] Spot on! [rant]the driving test is a joke, most people haven't got a bloody clue about driving quickly but safely[/rant] I did a course with a copper I know, he trains traffic officers. I am now, after only 12 hours, a MUCH better driver! It was amazing to see how quickly my car can go, even more amazing to have a copper next to me saying accelerate accelerate accelerate when I was already doing xx, erm, add another x in there, mph My trip to the 'ring last year showed what a good driver can do, my 180bhp Golf was overtaken by a 1.4 A-Class. The driver knew the track and knew how to drive, I knew neither! You only have to look at Sabine very nearly beating JC in a transit!
