BMW CD Changer

Recommended Posts

I’ve got a 2001 model 330d with the BMW 6 disc changer in the boot. Only the changer has swallowed a magazine of 6 CD’s and now won’t give it back. When trying to select the changer from the head unit it says ‘CD ERROR’. There is power in the changer (you can hear it trying to eject the magazine when you press the eject button) but it won’t pop out.

Any ideas (other than a hammer), greatly appreciated!!

Cheers …

If you think it's a stuck CD then here's how I've got them out of mine twice now...

Not sure if this is the same as the BMW A CD Changer that is in E36's....but chances are they're similar enough that this would help.

You will need to remove the changer from the car ...simple enough to do (on my E36 the cage that holds it comes out with two bolts...)..and two connections on back - power is a push in and radio control cable has a din type connection that screws together to join the two cables. Just undo and pull apart..

Then undo the changer from the cage - couple of screws.

The take the cover off the changer to expose the inside. On mine there are quite a few screws but again easy enough to do.

Remove the lid and you should more than likely see a CD stuck in the reader element of the changer. I've found I can move the roller with finger / pen to manually move the stuck CD back into the cassette. If not it will move away enough to allow you to manually extract the cassette and then get the CD out.

Once done - lid back on and make sure all CD's are in the magazine right way etc...and connect back to car power and control (don't fit to car though yet) ..and whilst you hold the changer flat get someone to try radio and select CD to see if is working ok. If so connect back up and away you go.

Hope that helps...
