Need to replace tyres - from where/with what?

noticed there is a gash in my front offside tyre and the front treads are down anyway [esp that tyre].

Done 21k so far so is that par for the course?

What do i change them for and where would i get good prices?

The tread on the rears looks fine but do i change just the front 2 or the all 4?

Finally, there is still sufficient tread on the front nearside even, so was [not too seriously i admit] idly wondering about swapping that out for the spare [which is full size IIRC] and getting 1 new for the front offside. Is this a no-no? NONO3.GIF

Insight and advice is very welcome!

cheers boys

popped in very quickly to "Hyde Road Tyres" in Manchester and they advised I should change the fronts [said rears are fine] and it would cost "around £50 each fitted" for "good quality ones".

Will pop back as i have a little more time tomorrow and ask for prices on Dunlop SP Sports 2000E or the Contintental Sports Contact 2's I already have on.

What does shifting the rear ones to the front achieve?

If your car is FWD (non quattro ) - then the fronts wear about twice as quick as the backs. By swapping the fronts and rears at about 12k miles, you will save yourself the bill for two new tyres, but have to fork out for 4 new tyres in another 12k!

Got replacement ContiSport2s

£80 each inc fitting/VAT from Hyde Road tyres [a place i know and trust].

mytyres had them at £71 each; minimum fitting would have been £6 locally and a week wait.

black circles ditto i bargained down to £76 each but in the end the extra £8 was the safety factor of fitters i know of
