Muppetboy
What kind of mpg are you guys getting from MkV GTI manuals? The dealer told me it would be more frugal than my MkIV 1.6(ahem, I didn't believe him obviously...) Didn't tell him I only get 33mpg... Cheers
Snoopy
Depends how you drive it, the roads you drive on, traffic and many many other things. Im getting about 33 many hear seem to be lucky to get 30.
RedRobin
I'm lucky to get 30 and that's on DSG. But I do like to have a sporty drive when conditions allow.
redbaron
Am averaging about 31mpg over 3000 miles. My commute is a 20 mile mix of town driving, stop-start mway crawl, and mway high speed driving, and I'm averaging about 30ish mpg per trip. Getting about 300mls from 45 litres of fuel. encee
Always in the low 30`s, but now slightly more after my re-map (maybe 1-2 mpg more)
Muppetboy
thanks for the comments... I'll be happy with anything starting with a 3!
neillloyd
Still running her in but I'm really concerned about how low my mpg is. I only do about 10 miles to work on 30/40 mph roads and I'm lucky if I get about 23 mpg driving like a pensioner! If I'm having a bit of fun it'll be under twenty. While this is not a massive problem for me I hope it gets better when I put some miles on.
RedRobin
Which computer readout are you using? "1" for trip or "2" for overall? Also, you are only driving 10 miles. You need to get out on a longer journey to see what's happening with your mpg.
RCUK
300 miles out of 45litres?? damn - id be lucky to see 200 out of the same for my integra - and thats without using it properly! With a proper thrash id get aruond 140!

AndrewEdward
Aye up, i seem to be getting about 280 tops on a full tank, but then again, my journey (3 miles) to and from work is stop/start. However, only ever need to fill up every 16/17 days, so not too bad, only Optimax of course. On this theme, is there a setting that tells you your average MPG since new? I only ever have it on No. 1 setting. Does setting 2 tell you your average? I obviously flick now and again, but there is a MPG setting that flicks up and down like it's on heat, surely this isnt the setting you're talking about?? [/ QUOTE ] There should be three MPG settings: 1) Current MPG (this is the one that shoots up and down rapidly) 2) Trip Average MPG (the average of your current journey) 3) All Trips Average MPG (the average across all the journeys you've done since it was last reset) On my Polo, to get to the total trip average I have to go to the normal average readout (by using the rocker-switch on the stalk), then press a small button on the bottom of the stalk (which is also used to reset the readout if held for long enough), unfortunately I don't know how you'd go about doing the same on your Golf. encee
Had mine out on it`s first decent run today, since I got it, and in 400 miles of M-way, and fast A-road, it averaged 36.5 mpg. Quite pleased, to say the least ! Just thought I`d share that with you all.
RedRobin
36.5??!! - That's fantastic! I don't think I've ever done better than about 33 and that was sometime ago. I recently thought I had managed 35 but then I saw it was average mph!! (on a short country lane B-road journey).

[/ QUOTE ] Yes Red, as I said, I was well pleased, and one thing I noticed (like any average I suppose) the further you go, the less it creeps up and down, and pretty much stays the same, with the same type of driving of course. It was also nice to give the steed a proper run as well, because I don`t really do big mileages, so it was nice to see how it went, and, as usual, it behaved impeccably ! RedRobin
....and I bet you felt comfortable and not particularly tired after your drive Do you like the seats? Cloth or leather?
encee
I did actually Red ! I found the seats to be VERY comfortable, but alas, having fallen foul again of the "used car curse" (my fault for buying used of course ), mine has only the cloth seats in. Incidentally, I have driven a couple with leather in, and found it to be exceptional ! To be honest, I would like to say that I prefer the cloth, as it harks back to the ethos of the original Mk 1 (which I`m old enough to well-remember ), but as I`ve mentioned before, I can`t get away with that one, as it`s my first ever VW anyway, let-alone Golf GTI. That`s something I won`t be retro-fitting though, as I would imagine it`s mega-bucks (and the Koni`s are beckoning first )
RedRobin
Mine is cloth by choice. I've driven a 'leather GTI' and much prefer the cloth. Better having spent the leather money on Xenons/DSG.

I`m going to have to get myself a go in the DSG one of these fine days, if not least to consider it for my next GTI (Mk VI in about 5 years)
petsy
encee, is your car a manual or dsg model? edit: you've unwittingly answered my question above.
JonoNZ
Each to their own of course, but I chose leather after test driving the cloth. IMHO, the leather transforms the interior of the car -- in a good way.
OzGTI
I'm with you on the leather. The downside is the heat in hot weather but I think it is worth it for the extra 'class' IMO. That said, I really like the way the cloth looks- just not for me this time 'round.
Muppetboy
Leather sticky in the summer and cold in the winter. I just love the cloth check that I'll get as standard, eventually...
