Intermitent blower problems

Hi everyone, just joined the site, looks great!

I drive a 98 A4 2.4 SE and I have problems with the blowers, I tried to get some heat through yesterday, adjusted the climate control to suit but no heat! Not even cold air blowing out! My wife drives the car and it happened to her but later just came on, could this be an electrical fault with the climate control or a mechanical problem with the fan(s)?

The car has been 100% relable over the past 2 years, and I was just chatting to a mate about the fact, just as this problem occurred - kiss of death eh?!

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated - given the current weather conditions!

Cheers

Dave

Could it be a thermostat problem? Is it not blowing hot air after 4 mins? Maybe its getting too hot and cannot control it? Either that or it is a loose connection which stops the fan when you go over a bump and comes back on again when you go over another bump?

Have you got it set on Auto?

When it stops working, I've set it to Auto and tried it manually - even air-con, but nothing. I've started the car up and set the temp to 'Hi' and the air blowing out is getting warmer, so it's ok at the mo. I'll let it run till the engine gets hot and see if it cuts out then.

Thanks for the advice :0)

Just popped out again to check and it's fine - blowing nice and warm in all directions! I've located the fan but it's a pig to get to, you have to remove the bottom windscreen cover, I'll check the electrical connections to it.

Thanks a lot for your quick response, didn't expect a reply till much later :0)

The blower has been playing up since, but yesterday I went over a huge pot-hole and it sprang back into life. It's still been playing up but when ever I go over a bump it often starts the blowers off! Maybe a loose connection somewhere - or like you say, a dodgy blower motor? :0(

Cheers for the info Nelson.

Well the motor's seized a couple of times since then so I'm just removing it and oiling it when ever it stops - a pain, especially in this cold weather!

Im gonna give in and get hold of another - seen them on ebay for £100 approx, but I'm sure there must be an A4 breaking somewhere......
