I am having a problem with my 2002 M3 SMG that has done 30k miles. In 6th gear, going at speed when i lift off the accelerator and then put it back on it sounds like the clutch is slipping. It only does it in 6th and at pace. I have been told by someone that it probably only needs the gear box oil changed but i am thinking that it could be a bit more serious. Any one had this problem or know anything about it confused.gif. cheers!!!

Kinda related. Do you guys know of the bunnyhopping problem that SMGs have? I think it's usually when the engine is still yet to warm up fully....basically unless you come down pretty gently on the accelerator, the car bunny hops..which can be quite embarrassing..especially when ppl are just waiting for the poser in the flash car to eff up, whether that be true or not.

That's not just the SMG - it's the manual too. Both my M3 Coupe (Manual) and Cab (SMGII) suffered from it. However, the SMG suffered less of it than the manual.

If you always make sure you run Optimax it does make a huge difference on start up though. Combined with a 30-60 second idle after starting, it goes away completely.

It's an M3 trait - although I did complain about it!

Gaz, had a very similar issue on my 54 cab. The SMG light started to blink almost constantly, and would only light up when I hit 5th and 6th. Dealer told me that the SMG had been "re-set", I assume reprogrammed and it was fine up until I started having hood problems again. Everytime I had a hood problem, it went hand in hand with SMG problems. Something to do with the roof sensors thinking that the hood was engaged in opening, hence the SMG would flash on the display. SMG was sorted by the dealer, but everything else electrical on the car remained a mystery.

If the box slurs changes then get it in. I've just had a new clutch/flywheel/software teach on my CSL and the change is now bloody great.

Car also bunny hops a bit, apparently the engine is more "mechanical" and doesn't rely so heavily on electrionics to monitor air flow etc.

Only happens when cold and the exhaust crackles and pops on the over run - basically it sounds the dogs!
