Bluedan
Great! Just another issue to throw into the list of things! My Climate control was stuck on "Econ" today, pressed every button on the panel, but it would not come out of "Econ" Any ideas?
PetrolDave
Try turning the climate control off and back on, or try it again next time you start the car. The climate controls on all the Audi's I've had (S3, S4, A4 TDi 130 & S4) have at some time "locked up" and not responded to the controls, either switching them off or re-starting has always fixed it - so far! lmmlmmam
Can also be due to the Air con system having developed a fault. Often a leak which'll require fixing then the system 'regassing'
Durrsaku
It sounds like a compressor(not working) to me mate. Hope it is not permanent otherwise £££
Bluedan
As silly as I feel now, it worked when I drove home, must be correct what PetrolDave said. Very glad its nothing more sinister, what with the luck I've had!! Must have "reset" after the ignition was switched off then on again. Will get it regassed when I have some dosh spare. Bluedan
This problem seems to happen every few days or so. Is it to do with cold weather, or should I get the system checked for leaks and regassed as a start?
DenisO
My understanding is that it does this by design when the ambient temperature drops below 3 or 4 degrees. This protects the pipes from freezing. I have an older, 98, A4 and the CC display shows a little snowflake when the compressor is running. I run mine all the time with the compressor on and the first really cold day we had, the snowflake would not come on whatever I did. I thought I was in for a big bill but my indy explained the design issue(confirmed by Audi Maidstone) so all was well. If it's happening intermittently with yours just check to see if it corelates with cold outside temperatures. If so you are OK.
Bluedan
Thanks. I thought that this may be the case, but it wasn't cold today, and it did it all the way to work which was an hour.
Bluedan
Taking it to an AirCon garage today to see what the issue is..............fingers crossed its not expensive!
Bluedan
Took it to a AirCon garage, and it had NO gas in the system!! So they regassed it. To me though, it isn't massively different, still fairly warm. Does it take time to get working, i.e. a week or so? Does this indicate I have a leak somewhere? [/ QUOTE ] You should have had them test for leaks before they regassed it Get a decent thermometer and test the temperature in the car when you have the climate control on auto and see if the temperature corresponds with that on the thermometer. If it doesn't the only thing I can think of is the temperature sensors are shot. You don't hoover them do you? As that can really bugger them up. Bluedan
What are they and where are they? He did say it "Pulled a good Vacuum" when he gassed it, whatever that means?? Can you replace the sensors?
