raymocrjd
Am currently on the look out for a replacement of my STi UK, and I'm quite interested in the new R32 mainly because of the DSG gearbox. However as I'm not keen on the R32 looks I decided to colour code the front of the car, I haven't finished it yet but have a look at the attachment. I personally think it would look much better colour coded. Secondly is it just me or is the manual gear change on the DSG gear lever the wrong way round? I would of thought pulling the lever toward you changers up the gear box 1-6 etc, and pushing away changes down 6-1?? Regards, Rob.
pomme
Yep i got to agree with you, anything that gets rid of the front grill looks better. After seeing two at AMD the other day, and two on the roads in the last week, i got to say i dont like them at all.

Makes it look more like the MK4. I definitely like that look

Smudge
You've got an up & a down, one on the left, one on the right, same as most others paddle shifters out there to my knowledge. Which way round they are I don't know. HTH.
GTiMK5
Think he is referring to the stick as opposed to the paddles which is as described, push away to change up and pull towards to change down. It makes sense to me and once you get used to it I dont see it been a problem.

All other cars that use sequential gearboxes that I know of are opposite to the R32, just looks like VW have just taken the gear selector from automatic gearboxes which is in my opinion is wrong and a shame. Not having a whinge because I believe DSG is the dogs plums but I think it's an oversight on VW's part.

I'm used to watching touring & rally cars which pull back to change up and push forward to change down.. Think its down to some folks logic. going forward so push forward to change up and go forward faster ???? Never driven one yet, but I would imagine that you'll get used to it... Think I'll be using the paddle shift more than the stick shift though when in manual mode... Can't say I agree about the colour coding of the front end though.. Makes it look like any other Golf....atleast the std front end is more individual and although it isn't to everyones taste I like it.. Just hope the new Jetta is as popular as the old ones though to keep it individual.
AGK512
Perhaps the desiger is a biker ..... push down/away to change up .... hook/pull up to change down ! Or a plane designer .... push throttles forward for more power or pull back for less Or a derailer pedal bike gear designer which tend to be pull back change down push away to change up End of waffle

AGK512
Blimey your right !!!!! ..... I just rembered the last one I rode was a vintage one that worked like that ..... then again in cars those days they did put the accelerator in the middle and the brake on the right ! Although some did have the novel idea on a preselector gearbox ..... I'll stop now before it all starts to go down the
