PetrolDave
We're taking our B6 S4 Avant to France in June for 2 weeks. The dealer has quoted £81+VAT to adjust the xenon headlamps from RHD to LHD before we go, and the same amount again to adjust them back when we return. That's nearly £200 for what they admit is less than an hours work. What do I have to do to do it myself? I've had the headlamps out already to change the indicator bulbs over to Philips Silver Vision ones and I know about the high voltages used to strike the xenon lamps plus I'm a Chartered Electrical Engineer - so I reckon I'm competent to do it myself, just need to know what to do. Anyone done it themselves and willing to share how?
Scotty
I wish I knew how. I did it easily on my TT but I've no idea on the S4. I've had the units out and can't see any switch to flick.

CJS4
I had a B6 S4 Avant and adjusting the lights was a real problem. The most cost effective way was a plastic deflector which was supplied and fitted by the local dealer for about 8 quid. It looked rubbish and messed up the performance of the lights but I suppose it's OK for a short term answer. The B7 is even worse, you have to remove the whole bumper and grill to get to the adjusters!! Hope this helps
Scotty
What adjusters? I can't even locate them in my Bentley manual?
UBM
Can't you put the Halfrauds conversion kit in the car and "forget" to put it on when you cross into France?
Scotty
You can ... and I do but I'd prefer to do it right is possible.
CJS4
Scotty The dealer assures me that the lights on the B7 S4 have a lever on the back which gives exactly the same pattern as the European models. I haven't seen it for myself as removing the front of the car seems a bit extreme. I settled for the "European Tourist" option (I think that's what it's called) which is done by computer and just lowers the beam. It makes the lights useless but legal! UBM
CJ - If it's like the B6, just open the back of the light cover and you should find the lever?
Scotty
UBM - Did you actually find levers on your B6? Any pics? CjS4 - I don't suppose you know what how they did it via computer? It would be handy to have a quick fix via VAG-COM.
UBM
Scotty - not on mine, no, I didn't have xenons. However, I did find a picture many months ago showing exactly where the lever is. Let me try and find it.... back soon...
CJS4
UBM That's interesting, the dealer and Audi UK assured me that the B6 S4 didn't have the levers and were only replaced (uselessly) on the B7 so maybe the info they gave me for the B7 isn't right either. My S4 spends a lot of time in Switzerland and has adaptive lights which are made worthless by the computer adjustment. Also, the left hand "kick up" on the beam pattern remains. You end up with a very bright road but only 20 metres in front of the car. I just try not to drive at night!!
UBM
CJ - Check. I remember Lussac fetching his TDI avant round (2003 model I think) and we did not find the lever on his B6 either. His stealer said there was. Link to original thread - here I don;t have xenons, but IIRC, there should be an obvious lever on the light unit. Pop off the backs of your xenon unit and have a look. IIRC too it was on the passenger side? But I might be worng, it has been known many times before....

[/ QUOTE ] I mentioned to the dealer that there was some doubt about the lever existing on a B6 S4. They've now said they'll have to have a look when I get them to put the EU style number plates on. I asked them to give me the part number of the plastic deflector - they said "we don't give out part numbers"! Can any of you tell me the part number? I'd rather spend 6 quid on a bit of plastic than have a dealer who appears to not know what they're talking about mess with my headlights!
