A3 - Longstanding problem with check engine light

Hi,

Have had this problem for a while now.

Keep getting 17705 and 17545 vag com codes.

One independent bloke told me it needed a new cylinder head. Got a second opinion and found an excellent guy that knows what he is doing.

Tried an airflow meter. Wasnt that.

Fitted a new dump valve. Ran OK for 3 weeks and light came back on with same codes.

Can anyone give me an idea of what else might be the problem?

I think the mechanic is going to try a new lambda probe next - he is willing to take the part off if that doesnt solve the problem, but as I am looking to sell the car i am loathed to spend another £120 quid to get this sorted.

Thanks

Sympathise Geoggy..... have been here and lost faith in car and dealership due their inability to cure. Finally, after the hose checks, a new lambda (then removed),and air flow checks the light stayed out long enough for me to sell the car. Would you believe it came on again on the way to part exchange it for the replacement (my current S3). Talk about a sickener. Took car to an independent I knew of and he said - a common problem and plugged the car in to his diagnostic set-up and put the light out. "Probably a dirty throttle body - needing a clean," he said." Keep your foot off the throttle when starting it up so as not to give too rich a mixture, especially when hot"

The light stayed out and did not reappear.

The vag com link given above seems very helpful.

Incidentally, I mentioned that this light had come on when collecting the replacement S3, and guy's comment was completely unfazed... 'happens all the time, probably the throttle body needing a clean'....!

D.
