Muppetboy
So to kill time waiting for my GTI (build date 14 Feb ) I've gotten some insurance quotes, the lowest being £996. (currently pay £400 for mkiv 1.6) Seems a bit high? 28 Male, Twickenham, 3 years NCB, driveway, 11k miles p/a.
RedRobin
28, Twickenham ungaraged, only 3 years NCB isn't doing you any favours. If you were 25 or under you might not get it insured at all! If your GF is your wife, try adding her to the policy...."I'm a mature married and settled guy and not some young tearaway hot head who likes to pull fast girls in fast cars" etc.
petsy
are you suggesting we married guys can't still pull the fast girls??
stevie_d
That is high, I've been quoted about £1,000 with protected ncb, 16,000, garaged car, 4 years ncb and I'm 23 and live near Cambridge. Give confused.com a try, they're pretty good. I'm currently with greenlight, they are awesome, so give them a shout too.

Muppetboy
I got my quote from confused! Also tried insuresupermarket.com but same thing. I'll give greenlight a try thanks. I can't change my age, build a garage or move house so does anyone else have any other ideas on bringing down the quote? And no I can't get married... Don't get me wrong a grand is well worth it but the more I can save on insurance the more petrol I can put in...
stevie_d
Well, your mileage is already fairly low and doing an advanced driving course will probably only knock £50 off. Have you put your parents, or at least your mum, on the insurance? Ask a female friend if she doesn't mind going on as well. If the insurance company thinks you're in a relationship then you're less likely to drive like a nutter, apparently
mu71rd
putting my girlfriend on it reduced mine by £300, and I don't even live with her. My insurance is £1200 and I'm 26, parking on the street, NO NCB, and I live in Brixton! that's through Bell direct...
Snoopy
If theres a female in your house add her to your policy. Does not need to be your wife or girlfriend either, (mind its a little bit less if she is) Mine dropped by near 30% and im in my mid 30s with full no claims, low risk area, car garaged etc etc, It was a bit of a shock to find it made THAT much of a difference to mine. daveyboy
Don't forget to barter either. My experience has always been find the lowest quote, knock 50 quid off and goto your preferred insurers and see if they will match it. Just be prepared to say NO to them...they will soon come back to you...Good Luck...

[/ QUOTE ] Yup, bargaining it great Norwich Union (or whoever they are called now) rang me up and said "Sir, it's been over a week since we were the most competitive insurer on your confused.com search. Have you found a cheaper deal, can we lower our price to match?" Most companies will bend over backwards to get your custom and as long as you're not a high risk case then they should pretty much match any quote. Just please steer clear of Adrian Flux! Muppetboy
Thanks a lot for all your comments! I'll give adding a female a try (I honestly thought more people on the insurance meant higher cost until now )

She's certainly up for driving my car! She's already got her eye on a VeeDub Beetle Cabriolet.....in pink of course!! She's already got the matching pink T-shirt. Simonl
By the looks of it mate, i think they're trying to tell you that your heads too big to fit in that car ...the forecourt of Loders if i'm not mistaken!

RedRobin
....Big, Scottish guy, always with a genuine smile and good sense of humour. Also a genuine car and bike enthusiast....He had raced Ducattis. Not a typical salesperson. Although I didn't know him for long, I'm pleased to have done so. R.I.P. stevie_d
Red: your GTI will be 3 years old when your daughter is learning to drive, would make an ideal first car *runs...
RedRobin
She inherited my iMac G4 when I upgraded to a dual G5, she's just inherited my Pentax Optio as I upgrade to Fuji F11, so it's certainly logical for her to inherit my GTI. But I've got a strong feeling that I won't be ready to part with yet in 3 years time! But I like your humour

RedRobin
Much as I would love her to have one and would help her achieve such a thing, I would never spoil her by gifting such an item. She'll be a better person for learning her own lessons and sense of values by her own efforts. She's a very cool little lady I'm proud to say. She already makes me feel very cooool Cheers
