imran999
With the concert and the symphony head units, are they able to be upgraded with a 3rd party amplifier/cd changer/subwoofer etc What connections are available on the back of the headunits? Anyone know or have experience?
Chav
Yep you can upgrade. You can buy adaptors for the head unit to convert to standard single/double din, and you can be wiring adaptors for using non OEM converters too. Have a look through the ICE forum on tyresmoke! gizze
The Audi head units have line level outs, you need a special cable but they are there. The biggest problem is the internal amps, as a pre amp they are very impressive, so a new power amp and speakers (maybe a sub) makes a wonderful difference and keeps the car looking stock too! imran999
ive got all the ICE gear already installed in my current car, so would be looking to transfer it over onto the new audi once i get it. Just wasnt sure what options were available with the standard audi headunits. Will head over to the ICE forum and see whats going on there. Nelson_R32
Just out of interest, can you install a Bose amp in a non-Bose car? I too find the Concert II sound flat and un-inspiring and would like something OEM to 'perk' it up a bit
edo
i think there is more to Bose than just an amp - more (and better) speakers...
Nelson_R32
Yes theres the uprated speakers too and two amps iirc, but just wondering if theres anything that can enhance the sound of the standard (crap) system.
s4_sat
one thing i can think of............... headphones
s4_sat
apart from that , you could get an amp which uses speaker level outputs and connect it to the standard head unit. you won't be able to control them through the headunit so get an equaliser or bass control. Biscuits
Think I was lucky with the stock S4 Avant system, it only uses the head unit to drive the front speakers. There's a seperate HARMAN KARDON amp in the boot driving the rears and the OEM sub. Not sure if the head unit (SATNAV+) makes any difference... I know the satnav/phone headunit in my Alfa 147 was with Bose. The stock S4 Avant system doesn't sound to shabby compared to the Bose I had in my A3 1.8TQ
