sitas3
for all those MK5 R32 wannabes Autocar this week has a 4 page road test feature on the new car. Worth a read. They gave it 4 stars and a verdict of "A fine car, but not the supreme hot hatch"
ChrisBuer
I just picked my copy up this morning so will have a good read at lunch ...I wonder what the ultimate hot hatch is then?
Soprano
I have to say I was not impressed with the article - I agree that another 20bhp wouldnt go amiss but when they start deconstructing a car in order to get a comparable its pretty poor - basically saying if the R32 DIDNT have 4wd a VXR/Megane 225 would give it a run for its money! whats that supposed to mean? Bit like me saying if Carl Lewis only had one leg I'd beat him in the 100 metres. Unless ive missed something, in its full form (including the 4wd) theres not many hatchbacks that spring to mind that can touch it.
AGK512
Interestng article. I actually though the damping between bumps on poor surfaces was more floaty in the GTI I tested a few weeks before the R32 on the same road. I notice the have a GTI on their fleet perhaps someone 'owns' it ! ? As for not blowing your socks off I think it's just one of those really competent cars that just gets on with it without bursting your eardrums or shaking your teeth out
scillyisles
I agreed with some of the article such as the ability to use the Haldex clutch to shift the power to rear wheels in corners but I did'nt agree with the comments about the ride being harsh. The ride on mine I find to be excellent - I wonder if their car was on different tyres - mines on Michelin Pilot Sport Exalto
rs32
I'll second the ride being excellent, it doesn't clatter round town and is incredibly smooth on the fast black stuff. have to watch it on speed bumps as the springs are stiff, but no complaints from me on the ride. feels great. Soprano
just as an aside - how are you finding the recaros?

I compared it to a mate's old M3 Evo (95/96 MY I think) in another post yesterday and still stick by this, although the .:R is nowhere near as powerful, but is much better on the twisties. not gonna worry about what the mags say, I love it after only 4 days looking forward to reading the full article. Soprano
Funny you should mention M3 - the new 32 put me in mind of the latest one on my first drive of one- smooth unfussed power delivery.
Soulboy
I have kept lots of the articles whem the mk4 R32 came out. Reading them now (and having owned one for 2 1/2 years) most of what they say is cack. They also contradict each other a lot. TBH I dont give a fk what they say. Writing about cars after spending a couple of hours on a test track is different from buying one, living with it every day and then selling it, with your own money. [/ QUOTE ] Very good - when I first sat in them in the dealers showroom I was concerned about the shoulder area as I'm 6ft4 - however I find that they are very comfortable and provide good lumbar support whilst holding you firmly in place.
