ChrisBuer
I’m having a few problems deciding between two colours – Steel Grey or Diamond Black. I test drove a Diamond Black car a while ago and thought it looked good and I’ve not seen the Steel Grey yet “in the metal” but I have seen photos liked it also. Basically my problem with the black is that I’m concerned it may, after a year or so, start to look a bit jaded? A friend of mine had a black focus that he kept very clean, but you could see the swirl and scratch marks on it after about 8 months. As I’m planning to keep the R for a long time (4-5 years), I’m wondering if black is the most sensible colour to go for? I’ve also never had a VW car, so I’m unfamiliar with the paint work quality (imaging it to be as good as BMW paint though). The black R I tested looked great in the showroom, but I’m wondering how long it will look like this for (with proper care and attention of course). The grey does look very nice, but the only thing putting me off is that my current car is this colour (pretty much). So any thoughts? I just can’t decide…... RossG
My Fabia vRS was black. Never again. Swirls, scratches, hazing, you name it and the paint showed it up. True, it looked good after a good load of megs stuff - but I really didn't think it was worth all the effort. Mind you, there are some swirls etc in the DBP paint that will hopefully get sorted on Saturday, so I guess no colour is trouble free I would take the Steel Grey. scillyisles
I've had one black car - a Golf GTI Mark1 with full BBS body kit and wheels e.t.c. Looked stunning when clean - never again will I have a black car - 50 yards down the raod after cleaning it would look grubby again and swirl marks, stone chips e.t.c. all showed up much worse on black. Steel grey is the better option if you don't want to spend all your time washing/dusting the car.

[/ QUOTE ] personally I would go with the grey had a similar dilemma between shadow blue / steel grey but opted for blue as last 3 cars have been silver/grey. Mook
Mrs Mook has a black Passat and it is just the worst colour for showing up the mud. The swirl marks also show up a lot more when the sun catches it. Our Audi Allroad was Atlas Grey (similar to Steel Grey) and it was absolutely the best colour for not showing the mud, not showing up swirl marks from polishing it. I stuck a post in General Cars a couple of weeks ago about "best colour for a car" and the overwhelming response was dark metallic grey or silver. Deep blue pearl is a fantastic colour (not that you're going there!), but just as bad as black for showing the mud...
ChrisBuer
Cheers guys!! Well that’s it decided then…Steel Grey all the way I did kinda think that the black would be hard to maintain plus it would look jaded after a bit of use! If I’m honest, I’ve never had any gripes or problems with my current car colour, it’s been fantastic! Right better call the dealer and ask him to change it on my order then…. Cheers again!! AGK512
What about reflex silver or do you all prefer the darker colours ?
Soprano
Silver is far the best colour for not showing up marks etc in my experience. As long as you dont go for the basic black (which wont wear well at all), and go for the pearlescent metallic any swirl marks will always mop out- your local valeter should be able to do this for £30ish. [/ QUOTE ] I test drove a reflex silver and if I'm honest, it didn't take me back. The gun metal is much my preferred option, so much so that I've now called my stealer and asked them to change the order
