XP SP2

I installed SP2 fekr.giffekr.giffekr.gif from a cd on my XP Home machine and after it installed, it took away my ability to use the internet. So i uninstalled it and during this process, it froze. So, i rebooted the machine and it runs very slow. I looked on the MS website and tried the ways listed for remving it, but none seemed to work. I have also noticed that in device manager, the P4 chip doesn't seem to be working. does anybody know if I should uninstall this and see if it will reinstall the P4 chip by itself? I've tried moving things around to a spare drive, but it wont let me copy and paste. Does anybody know what I should do? I don't have the pc's help disks to hand but I am going to try that. Anyother ideas apart from a reformat?

I have to say SP2 has been fine on my laptop also, but as Thorburn says its fine after you switch off all the crap! i think the best thing is reformat if its doing silly things, once you take into account all the time you can spend on trying to fix it, you could of more than likely have it reformatted and up and running again.

No worries with XP2 here either but I have heard plenty of horror stories in my line of work (IT support). I've never hada problem but 9 times out of 10 I am installing it onto a new or cleanly-installed copy of XP. In fact at work last week we used XP2 to fix a problem with corrupt system files on a client's laptop!

It fecked up 4 of our pc's at work. The girls in the office clicked on the "updates have been downloaded for your computer" bubble thingy that pops up from the taskbar. They all got to the Windows loading page and then looked like they were going to boot up but then didn't get any further. Had to re-install Windows on all of them and made sure I turned off automatic updates. Fecking Microshaft buttcheeks.gif

For anybody wanting to install SP2 on their machine, i strongly suggest that they read into slipstreaming XP so that SP2 is installed when the re-install windows. PM me for any help on this! 169144-ok.gif

Seconded.

I've done quite a bit of work using slipstreamed and multi-boot Windows CD's.

ryanvm.msfn.org and www.nliteos.com are VERY handy resources

The RyanVM allows you to slipstream all the hotfixes up to mid-January into a Windows install which is very handy indeed.

Nlite allows you to add or remove components from the CD and creates an ISO for you.

DVD I've made at work contains XP SP2 and 2003 Server, installs all the common drivers for our systems, MS Office, Anti-virus, etc all without any user intivention except for selecting the partition to install to grin.gif
