Oatz
Filled mine to the brim on Friday evening and after a weekend back in the countryside i returned to london on Sunday evening with 1/2 a tank of petrol remaining. Drove to work and back yesterday and still 1/2 a tank. Pulled the car out the garage this morning and gauge read a full tank (car was parked on quite a steep incline at the time) but as i drove to work it still read a full tank and eventually evened out again.... It did exactly the same on the way home tonight too, read a full tank then levelled out again!? Now, this is the first time i've filled her to the brim and it got me thinking maybe there is some kind of Porsche 996 weird fuel gauge thing going on here (my previous C4S used to register empty until you got to a certain volume of petrol then it would jump from reserve to almost half full) Is this the same for the R and would explain my crazy gauge experiences? Skidmark
This sounds a bit like the problem I had at about 6 months old (car not me). The car cut out and stopped with no warning [80/90 mph south bound M5] ...? VW assistance towed it to services and did all the usual checks......nothing found. The fuel gauge was showing 1/4 full but still no life ! The guy finally took the inspection cover off under the rear seat to check the fuel pump / gauge unit...found it The pump & guage unit had dropped into the bottom of the tank with the float stuck at '1/4 full' resting on the bottom of the empty tank Filled up with fuel and away to hotel [on hols].... Fixed by dealer in Barnstable under warranty [took the 3 days to get bits & fix] Had no trouble with it since It's worth having a look, may be same problem ? good luck
pomme
Or did you see the bit about the Audi TT last week on watchdog, it was all to do with the instrument cluster and it kept going wrong, and had similar signs as yours.
