MOSE
[ QUOTE ] Hi Guys, Having a test drive in the Monaro 6.0 VXR tomorrow, anyone got one?, whats the economy like!! if any. [/ QUOTE ] John, Its entirely dependent on what you mean by economy. If we are talking complete running costs including finance, servicing, fuel, replacement tyres etc....then you have found the right car....depending on how you drive it. For servicing, every 10k for £150....yes you read that correctly. I am lead to believe that during the first serve very little is expected for replacement, so costs are quite minimal. At 20k, I have read that owners are just beginning to have pads nd discs replaced...some opting for the HSV/AP Race spec system exclusively developed for the 6L. For tyres, the car is happiest running on Pirelli Rosso Zeros 245/35/19 on each corner, and prices are anywhere from £185 fitted upwards, dependent on supplier. Fuel cost.....now here is where it gets interesting. I've racked up quite high milage in my VXR since I have had it, partly due to work and partly due to the fact that once you have driven this car you just cannot stop driving it. Its addictve. OK...you get a 70 litre tank and up until just before Xmas, I was averaging around 24mpg. This dropped to around 17 for some reason or another until dealer/tuner suspected that the Lamda sensors needed replacing. These were replaced last week while having a few other tweaks and I on a run down to Taunton on Sunday I averaged 27.1mpg. Dropped to around 24 when we hit the 40mph zones on the M5, but back up to 27 on the way home. Am chuffed to bits with that. If you put sh1t petrol in there the car will definately tell you, it wont be happy. 97 and NOTHING else!! If you buy a VXR, you will almost certainly benefit from the Stage 1 tune offered from WORTEC. This is basically a CAT-back exhaust upgade, with either quite-oldschool-cans, or the full NASCAR treatment. Car sounds fantastic with either. This is complimented with an engine remap. The ar feels completely different with this initial stage and further stages are currently in development. Any specific questions about the VXR then PM me Enjoy the test drive and dont be afraid to floor it when you hit a roundabout......its great fun
Golfer
Thanks for the info MOSE, 27 MPG sounds great to me, I'll give it some tomorrow,Lamda sensors going to pot a bit soon!!, just how many miles have you covered?, best regards AJ How much BHP would this re-map gain? MOSE
Have covered around 6.5k at the moment, and car is happy at an average of 24mpg, typically just over 20 while poodling about round town. Lamda sensors probably melted I dont know, once they were replaced, car was running fine. I first noticed something was wrong when the car would cut out in first and reverse and exhaust note had got quieter. The remap and catback on its own will take you to 440hp with 443lb/ft of torque. These figures were arrived at by testing the car in various conditions/temps etc, with CAI and MAf upgades the car is circa 470. Stage 2, currently in testing phase of development and due for release in March, will bring the car over 500hp, figures are not yet available. The LS2 engine is pretty indesctructable, very brutish and serious fun. Open ya wallett and you can tune it to ya hearts consent at affordable prices. MOSE
John......forgot to add, if it a car with a boot that you need, then you are wasting your time. If you are a one bag kind guy like me, then boot space wont be a problem. The VXR has the boot space cut due to the petrol tank being re-positioned above the rear axle. Performance wise and otherwise, the car wont dissapoint, even in stock mode. To really appiate the car, you need to have a word with the guy I mentioned in the PM and he will be more than happy for you to rag his VXR to death......cos he knows you'll order one The few littl goddies on the car make it an absolute joy to drive

MOSE
Well, sadly it wears a Vaux badge. But interesting that it has HSV DNA stickers all over it. I mentioned to Red Robin in another post that in OZ...the car wears its legit colurs and is known as a HSV GTO. In the US it has a slightly different front end and is known as a Pontiac GTO.....in the UK it has the GTO nose and is known as a VXR. Sh1t happens. Putting the badge aside, a NEW VXR will cost you £36k, although I know of a fantastic silver VXR going for £29k. This will give you a legit HSV car (just remove the Vaux badges) with a legit Chevvy LS2 engine with 410hp stock. Fecking bargain. If you are looking for something a bit more affordable, then the CV8 5.7 is available from £20k upwards. Yep, there are plenty of bargains to be had. The courtesy car I had (anice Oddysey CV8 5.7 with stage 1 tune and quiet cans) sold for around £22k I believe.
Alastair_A3
sounds good, sadly im not in the market for another car, ive have been given the no fecking way from the wife for this year Have you got any pics in the gallery? danksy
The car is bloody mental It scared the bejesus out of me, when I was in the passenger seat The exhaust noise is something else I think it could quite possibly wake the dead The car is an absolute bargain MOSE am I right in thinking that a lot of these mods are sanctioned by Vauxhall for warranty purposes? MOSE
[ QUOTE ] MOSE am I right in thinking that a lot of these mods are sanctioned by Vauxhall for warranty purposes? [/ QUOTE ] Correct There are very few tuners in the UK who specialise in LS2 tuning. But, all of the mods on my car have been approved by Vaux and do not affect warranty in any way shape or form. The very first questions I asked Wortec was whether o they affected warranty, but they have worked in very close liaison with Vaux during the development. Besides, if you look at the vid I posted above, there is a Maloo VXR on there which happens to be one of Vaux's press cars. This car carried a few different stages of Wortec tuning incuding a Harrup supercharger. Vaux love it to bits So far, for Zaust upgrades, there are four different packages available in the UK. These being Milltek, Wortec, WRC and another that I cannot think of at the moment, but is well known. The Suspension and Brake upgrades have been developed by HSV/AP and are all approved and above board. Incidentally, sometime this year HSV will open up shop in the UK, so parts and upgrades etc will be available via various franchises.
RedRobin
I've only been with Mose for a short ride but the car is awesome. The exhaust is loud but proud! It's not too loud imo and the point is that it's a sound of pure quality. Who in their right mind wants to drive a car that performs like that without hearing every breath she takes. Quality of interior finish is excellent and the back seats are seriously comfy. The whole cabin feels spacious. This is a thoroughbred performance car. I am truly gobsmacked to hear how good the mpg is! Serious kit for enthusiasts
MOSE
The exhaust and remap was the brainchild of at least 2 ppl I have met and have got to know personally. And they have developed the product with their own finances, and most of the modded VXRs and CV8s have the Wortec upgrade. So hats off to them, they are guys who have bought into developing the upgrades with their own dosh and are very much HSV fanatics. The guy who did the tune has a VXR and a LS1 Commodore....which is very nice!

PS) black the best colour.
MOSE
Glad you enjoyed it, you would enjoy it a damn sight more as well ig you drove the car with the first stage tune in it...it has so much more......life! Golfer
Therlow Young was the dealership, and john was the sales guy, we gave this VX the full treatment and I enjoyed every min of it. Much more grunt than the 650i I drove, I hope the new S6 V10 goes like that, If it does I will get one for now.
MOSE
Well, you could buy the previous VXR, with 5.7 LS1 engine and slight variance in cosmetics, which has a feck off great boot and these can be bought quite cheaply now. Many examples about the place!
