Retro fitting OEM Xenons to MKV GTi

As I couldn't make any changes to my car ,it’s because the dealer said all changes to the car are now closed as its week 7-8 production ( not sure if this is true - but I have to believe the dealer). So I'm now kicking myself over this as I should have had Xenon's on the options list when I first ordered the car

Well now I really want Xenon’s, so I have decided to look at going down the OEM route smile.gif

So my questions are:

Is it possible install the OEM Xenon’s if I get all the parts below or is there anythin else I need.

-2 control modules (Xenon bulb and Headlight aim)

-2 suspension level sensors (front and rear)

-2 headlight aim adjustment motors (left and right)

-Xenon bulb ignitor unit

-Dedicated Xenon Wiring

-2 Xenon Headlamps

I think from the above the suspension level sensor motors could be the hardest to fit as the might not be compatible with the suspension from a GTi supplied without Xenons.

I’m not too pushed on headlight washers (its not the law here yet ), I know these can be retro fitted using the existing bumper?

If I’m living in fantasy land please let me know and I’ll get this notion of fitting OEM Xenon’s out of my head

Sorry for all the questions and thanks a million in advance for the information and opinions.

JD

Bugger, I knew someone would ask this. I'll go and get the link for you. smile.gif

EDIT: Apparently the best bulbs to get are "Phillips Vision plus". They give something like 50% more light than normal bulbs, so not quite upto xenon standard, but much better than oem.

I wanted the xenons, but I wasn't going to pay £700 for them, although I have them on my MKIV and they are excellent.

ask the dealer if it's at "Production Confirmed" stage on the computer. If so I think you still have the option of changing the spec, but you will have to wait for a new build slot AFAIK.

If before the "Production Confirmed" part of the process you should still be able to change.

Just reviewed the Electrical workshop manual in this area and it looks like quite a lot of work plus the vehicle control units will have to be coded by the dealer to become fully operational. Will your wiring loom for a non Xenon equipped car be the same as for a Xenon equipped one if not you're into wiring up the front axle and rear axle sensors to the level control unit which sits just under the drivers footwell (access is via the side panel on the dashboard.

Looks like quite a lot of work to me and from what I can see the on board vehicle diagnostics are different if you have Xenons fitted.

The better bulbs from Halfords sounds a more cost effective route with 100% success guaranteed. I also suspect that the parts costs from VW would make this prohibitively expensive.

I've always switched to osram silverstar bulbs, +50%and whiter light. I find them very good, You can still see the difference but compared to the mk4 std headlights the std lights in a mk5,are much better and with new bulbs much brighter. I paid something like £30 for 4 ( 2 x headlight, 2 x main beam)

Don't bother!

The xenons are good but u do get flashed a lot by other motorists.

Just get the uprated bulbs as above, i always fit them to non xenon lights and they make a huge diff.

Also religiously kep the covers clean cos they are hotter and bake on the road grime.

I'd have xenons again (although u really need adaptive ones like on the passat to get full benefit), but i'd NEVER mess about retrofitting, spend u're pennies on an AMD remap instead...
