jnash Posted February 1, 2006 Report Share Posted February 1, 2006 car engines are not my thing, car electronics fine basically bought my 1.8t expected to hear a sort of dump valve soundsee on the forum people can hear the turbo kick in , i cant seem to figure out when it does when it doesnt etc.. i know that you get the really loud pssst when you replace the dump valve and the standard one is the electronic one but i cant figure out what im looking for , its not a big deal but its nice to know! cheers and sorry to sound like such a newb!!!! Prhim Posted February 1, 2006 Report Share Posted February 1, 2006 Don't think Audi turbo engines use a 'dump valve' in traditional sense. Think I recall reading that the waste gasses get fed back into system, hence lack of 'psst'. My S3 never made much noise, and it had the forge valve fitted when I chipped it. Chelsea Mick Posted February 1, 2006 Report Share Posted February 1, 2006 As Prhim says.. Audi use a Diverter Valve in preference to a Dump Valve. In essence the difference is that the diverter valve re-circulates the boost where the Dump valve dumps ( ) the boost to atmosphere hance the boy racer "woosh!" sound. If I really listen closely when driving under boost, I can sometimes hear the Diverter Valve working in my S3, but you do have to listen very carefully....
