I have owned my brand new 55 plate golf r32 for 5 weeks and its well fecked. Its been making weird noises from the steering which i was told by VW that i need a new steering rack as there is a fault on it.

I also noticed a really loud tapping from under the car so mentioned this and asked them to have a look and to my horror they told me that the car was dangerous to drive and they could not release it until speaking to VW head office.

It turns out that the prop shaft as broke and they dont have any in stock so im now awaiting delivery from germany and god knows how long that will be

Im now driving round in a horrible Golf plus and i hate it.

You should reject it under the sale of goods act, and ask for a new replacement asap, that'll make their ears prick - good luck...

that crossed my mind too s2000db, but wasn't sure about a time limit on rejection. is it not 14 or 28 days or something like that ?

I was thinking about rejecting the car under the sale of goods act. To be honest its had 2 major problems after only owning the car for about 6 weeks and feel i may have a bit of a lemon. Im waiting for the main man at VW Harrogate to call me tomorrow and see if he will go for that.

All they can do is apolagise but cant say it makes me feel any better and im out of pocket by £27350.

I will keep you posted tomorrow

Have you thought of highlighting this with What Car and asking if they can feature it in their column. For a car costing this much and one that is so desirable i think they may be interested, this should help in making the dealers mind up about rejecting the car. I certainly would want to replace it, it sounds like a friday afternoon example.

Darren,

I had this problem with a brand new A3 - the DSG box went after three weeks!

We reject the car under the sales of good act on the basis it was 'not fit for purpose' i.e. had had a major fault.

We were over the Audi 1000 miles g/t.

If you write and threaten them - you may well get soemthing out of it we got about £500 as a gesture of good will and compensation - we still got our money back though and bought a BM.

I have a copy of the letter somewhere....

Also don't forget that your contract is with the dealer not VWUK, so all your efforts should be concentrated there, - it's up to them to deal with VW, give them 7 days to sort it (in writing) or you'll involve a solicitor, for which they will also have to picp up all the costs + compensation..

Just a quick update. The VW dealer called me this morning and said my car woudl be ready for next Friday and they have also given me a Toureg to drive round in untill the work is complete

I did mention to the sales director that i was thinking about returning it and would like a new one in its place

He replied that he would not be able to get me one and therefore it would have to be a refund.

Also contacted What Car and they have asked me to put it in writing

Im not sure what to do so do you guys have any ideas.

Regards - Darren
