prof
Any idea what parts I need, what the part numbers are and how much they are ??? I would fit it myself, so should I buy from VW or best to get the bits somewhere else ?? Thanks prof
dogbucket
Its a bit of a mission to fit, but full instructions are here You can get the bits from here parts are only £50 quid or thereabouts, but you also need to use VAGCOM to enable it in the ECU which would push up the cost unless you know somebody who has it. I am considering doing it when the weather warms up a bit, although others on here would recommend getting someone like AMD to do it as IIRC they only charge £200 or so
Mook
AmD will do the job for you if you don't fancy doing it yourself, for the princely sum of £350 fitted inc VAT. Most of the dealers around the Bicester, Warwick and Oxford area use them to retro-fit cruise. Apparently it's not something a VW dealer should offer, but you never know if you give your local one a call.
prof
Thanks all, I think I'll buy the parts and give it a crack. cheers, prof
hotdog
You will probably also need to re calibrate the esp system. This can be done with VAG - COM. Apparently there are sensors on the steering column which can be disturbed whilst fitting the new stalk
1monty
With the state of crowded roads these days I have only used my cruise 3 times in 5000 miles! Wouldnt bother with it.
njc851
i know what you mean, but some roads and times are better than others, I work shifts and always have it on, my dad (who to be fair got it as standard, ie didnt pay probably doesn't even know where the button is!) Sounds hard work to fit, i admire you lot that can do all this stuff, am gonna attempt to fit the ipod icelink to my new V when it comes, and it'll prob be sat in bits on driveway for a month after!! Doh.
mb
I use mine quite a lot - for mway cruising & also in roadworks & temporary speedlimits lets me stop worrying about the speed I am doing in. It is one of those things you either get into the habit of using or not using - seeing as you have cruise try it for a bit you may find it more useful than you imagine. Undersatnd retrofit may need a bit more justification though !

[/ QUOTE ] Bloody hell - people's take on the usefulness of cruise is so weird -I use mine all the time - whenever I'm in a 30, 40 or 50 - just set it to the max speed and worry about what's on the road in front of and behind you, rather than thinking about watching the speedo. I use it all the time on the motorway...

Mook
There's three things I would never buy a car without these days - climate, leather and cruise. Oh, and an engine with a decent amount of horses...
