Ska
Can Vag cars with digi counters be rolled back easily? Not that I want to do it , its just that I'm looking to buy either an old Ford Galaxy or Sharan as a work horse. But the condition of some of the MPV's I've seen don't tally with the odometer So... can they? Cheers
loddrik
Very easy, older cars only have the mileage in the odometer. newer cars have it in several places, BM's have the mileage in about 6 places inc key and headlight unit.

Ska
I've heard Merc's have a memory in Gearbox or something. I'm sure you just can't do it with VAGcom or the like, are these guys going to dodgy dealers or something? Oh well its just a case of looking for wear and tear I guess
cruiser647
People carriers are by their nature, bound to have had a hard life. Transporting kids/stuff/shite about, to the tip, shops etc. Putting the chairs in and out will cause battle damage too, so I think many will look tatty before thier time. Best bet is to try to find an ex-chauffeur car/hire car (not taxi), as they will have been cared for. Probably the later cars will have better mileage protection. As Lodders has implied, the early ones are probably drill adjustable!
Mook
The mileage can be changed on any car with a digital speedo, normally by plugging straight into the diagnostics port with a box of tricks - I've seen ads in Exchange and Mart before. Don't think it can be done via VAG COM, but if the muppet selling the car has clocked it, you can soon get them sorted out with the aid of the long arm of the law. Get hold of the V5 if you're in any doubt and give the previous owner a call - also, call each of the garages that have done any servicing and maintenance on the car and ask when any work was done - they all record the mileage. I didn't know about the mileage being logged in places other than the ECU
Booster
Lodders is right about BMWs storing the info in several places. Mercedes can easily be clocked back (even very new ones). I know this as someone p/x'd a car with a mate of mine and alarm bells started ringing. He did a bit of digging and called the previous owner who said that the car (a 53 plate CLK) had 65k on it when he sold it. The car three months later had 42k. theduisbergkid
Saw a car for sale ad recently, it said 'milage reflects the price' (ie not price reflects the milage). Do you think the idiot owner said " well I'm selling is for only £3000 so I had better drive round the block a few times to get the milage up" ?! mulkbear
[ QUOTE ] Can Vag cars with digi counters be rolled back easily? [/ QUOTE ] 1 x VW Technicain 1 x High mileage VAG vehicle 2 x £20 notes = One low mileage vehicle but most VAG cars do show there mileage in there general condition, most of the time a VAG car that has had a "hair cut" are easy to spot . Rustynuts
I've been told that VW's store the mileage in the ABS controller.
