Just used my own oil for the service at Camberley Audi, and got no oil back after giving them 2x4 and 1x1 - for those of you mathmatically challenged, thats 9 Litres of oil. Is that right??? There is no way the engines needs that much - do they waster some flushing it through?? Does anyone know how much was used in their last service?

Thanks

I joined the TT Owners club when I had a TT. I still resubscribe each year (£25) and that gets me cheap oil. I'll see what price it is. I basically buy 4x4L at a time and a couple of 1L bottles.

My car uses very little oil. Certainly not as much as yours but since I got mine at 5.5k miles may it did to start with.

That's how much I gave them for my service. I'm just glad I buy in bulk and not pay their prices!!

[/ QUOTE ]Hi Scotty, I have just priced the castrol slx 0w30 oil at a local outlet and its ££ EXPENSIVE !!!, cant believe the price of it. A 1ltr top up is £15 !!!. I prefer to buy in bulk myself, any advice on where to go?

Cheers

My V8 uses about 1 litre per 8,000 - 10,000 miles which I think is acceptable.

I am not sure about this castrol slx though; its very thin for the cold starts and if the car doesnt get to warm up much (like my A4) I think it could be better just using a synthetic of higher viscosity.

Mine used 9 litres on its first AVS as well. Mind you, haven't used any more oil since then (touch wood) but was using a litre every 5,000 miles.

Pretty normal consumption from what I have been reading.

As for cheap oil, unles it's far cheaper, I'm not that arsed about the hassle presently as I have nowhere to store it and Halfrauds is doing the oil for £11.50 a litre at the mo locally. May change that view when I have a shed.

I live right next to a duel-carriageway, so in the morning the car doesn't get much of a warm up before doing a light throttle, 3,000rpm run to work. Maybe this is where all the oil is going?

although Audi quote 1 litre / 1,000Km... I think this is un acceptable for a modern car.

What oil grade is everyone using?

Official SLX II - 0w30 ? (Castrol Edge at local Halfords 4l = £43)

Official SLX III - 5w30 ? (Castrol Edge at local Halfords 4l = £43)

Fully Synth - 10w40 ? (non variable service oil grade)

I realise I'm hijacking an S4 thread inappropriately but this seemed the best place to post. Having read this thread, I recommended to my brother-in-law that he should provide his own oil for his next service (today) as the Audi dealer would doubtless charge a small fortune. This morning, he phoned them to ask how much oil he would need to buy and they said that they wouldn't accept any oil from him and he had to have their oil and their prices (about £14 a litre, as it turned out).

Can they do this? I've certainly never heard of a main dealer refusing to accept a customer's oil before. I suggested a call to Audi UK Customer Care to get their opinion. I'd be interested in the opinions of others, particularly those who have provided their own oil.
