rs32
hi all see the attached pics for today's meeting between Jimmy_P, LeeR & rs32. Hope you all like the shots, the 3 cars looked fantastic together. Jimmy's sounded great too with those Millteks & hi-flow cats. Very impressed with the DSG Mk5 also - thanks to LeeR for the demo And the drive out of Brighton was fun too .... we're all hoping to be involved in a Brighton-based meet at some point- I think Dan32 mentioned this the other day so we'll see what response this gets. AGK512
Great set of pics I thought R32's were supposed to be rare ... look like they are 10 a penny in brighton Seriously though very interesting seeing the mk4 and 5 in the same colour and picture. The mk4 looks almost dwafed !!! Can't wait to get the ball rolling on mine
english68
I know it's been said a thousand times, but here goes: These pictures prove (to me) that the Mkiv is SO much better looking than the Mkv!! Neater, more purposeful at the front and so much less fussy around the rear (especially positioning of tailpipes). Better proportioned, perfect ride-height and about 5% more aggressive in stature (the all-important, 'subtle but you notice it' 5% in my book). Just my 2p but VW: What's going on???? - Saving all the good bits for R32T/R36/R40??? Sorry to Mkv owners, who probably have a better all-rounder. Mook
Well they're all far too bloody clean First time I've seen a Mk4 and Mk5 DBP next to each other and I like the Mk5
ashleywater
See Mook! MK4 looks "dated" next to the MK5. And for all those people who did'nt like the MK5 alloys, just try and spot the difference from the MK4 OZ! If you go to the R32 gallery, somewhere at the end, you will find my 3dr MK4 next to a 3 dr MK5, in pretty similar colour's!! Battery died on the digital before I could get some "rear end" shot's for comparison......
Mook
[ QUOTE ] MK4 looks "dated" next to the MK5. [/ QUOTE ] That's a subjective opinion! [ QUOTE ] And for all those people who did'nt like the MK5 alloys, just try and spot the difference from the MK4 OZ! [/ QUOTE ] I've never liked the Mk5 alloys and I would hate to have to clean them - stick some anthracite 19" BBS CH wheels on and it would work
Dan32
I think the first 2 photos show how the MKV alloys appear to be smaller than the MKIVs, even though same size. Nice to get a heads up on the mini meet in Brighton. What gives? LOL! Funnily enough I was in Brighton yesterday, so yes MayConv, R32s are 10 a penny down here, although didn't leave via London Rd like you 3 and ended up going for a spirited drive over Devils Dyke to try and get rid of my emissions light. Car in Caffyns as we speak.

RossG
I had a good chance to compare the MK IV and MK V yesterday at the NE Meet. TP27's car is lovely. Seeing the two cars together - both DBP 3 doors made it very apparent that mine is an older model. The MK V is much more modern looking, and very sleek in the flesh. Funnily enough, I felt that it looked quite small next to mine, although it is definately higher. The MK V is a more subtle, and expensive looking car, and I really like it. The interior is lovely - those blue needles on the dials are ace! Still love the aggressive and macho look of mine though

swil00
Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention when looking at the MKV, but I though it didn't have any....so was going to ask the dealer about them... Ahh, right found a pic in the gallery... See the plastic covers, but can you not get an optional sill cover to well... cover up all that exposed paint work.. Daemon
If "dated" means, "uncluttered" and not plastered in chrome and sunlight catching horizontal slats in the lower grills, then yes the MkIV R32 looked dated. But it looks better. Don't get me wrong, they're all nice cars, but since the comparison has been made.. This photo illustrates nicely why I like the MkIV looks so much more. The MkIV's lower grills are ominous black, functional looking (and in many cases are). The MkV's grills shout out "looks only" and "non functional" because the slats catch the sun. The chrome.. well, some people like it. Some don't. I like the fact that the MkIV R32 has unmistakeable unique styling, but isn't so flashy that it attracts too much attention. And as an engineer, it's hard for me to not recognize that the tall sloping hood of the MkV is not there for looks, but for pedestrian crash standards. I actually like the look of the MkV GTI and Jetta/Bora GLI more than the MkV R32. But that's just my opinion. I mean.. really ian
TP27
Don't disagree with your sentiments. Having now have the pleasure to own both, the looks of the Mk4 coupled with the drive of the Mk5, there's the ideal compromise !!
