akira
Just a quick one, my Dad uses a laptop (or did till the modem port died) for accessing the internet, ordering dvd's and stuff and writing the odd email. And that's it. Now i dont think he needs a laptop (after all the aint cheap for that kind of useage), can anyone think of an alternative...i kind of half laptop? Bounce
i would think the cheapest option would be to fix it, maybe you can get a external modem, if its not repairable what about a PDA, but these things aren't cheap either, you can pick up a desktop fairly cheap these days, probably get one from dell for £
cruiser647
Go for a desktop - Out of choice, I would use a desktop everytime. So much faster and cheaper, with better graphics and more upgradeability! Admittedly, Dell desktops are not too bad. The Dell laptops are cheap, flimsy crocks of poo. akira
Desktop will take up too much room for the amount of use
CarMad
If its not too old. Forget about the modem. Get broadband and wireless and he will really have fun then. Plus you can use it on the next PC if that one goes dead. You can get very cheap broadband deals these days, so ditch the dial up and go for broadband.
