Phantom
I know that the subject of insurance has been discussed many times before, but I have just had my Tescos renewal through and with yet another increase in my renewal I am now hunting around. Even though I am *ahem* 38, clean license, full NCB, car is garaged, fitted with a tracker and my car is worth half what it use to be !!, my renewal is now £932 which is £200 more than what I paid three years ago when the car was new. Not sure if there are any other 2.4 sport cabs left on this forum but I would be curious to know what insurance you are paying before I go to the hassle of looking for another insurer on confused.com etc ? Really stupid question I know, but do insurers take into account the value of the car , eg mine at £15-17k , before working out a renewal figure or do they use the random number generator based on other policy holder accidents to decide how much you should pay. May be Insurance Jon can shed some light on the this Thanks for the advice
MikeA2B
Have you tried Adrian Flux? Worked out cheaper for me, £560 fully comp, 4 points, same value car as yours and i'm 32!
Phantom
No, haven't tried them as yet, but thanks for the advice , just ran a check on confused and the cheapest is £432 fully comp with Auto Direct who have a £550 excess. Milo
That still sounds expensive to me. I looked at getting a new 3.0 s-line cab last year (34 at the time with 1 SP30). esure were quoting me just over £400 with a £150 excess. I would have a try running the figures through esure and maybe FirstAlternative (an offshoot of esure) Maybe it's your mileage that's putting the cost up? Phantom
I have quoted for 15k per year as my job situation has changed now. For all they know my car could have only 30k miles on the clock. For some reason esure opted out of giving me a quote on Confused. Perhaps living in MK with a high number of roundabouts is affecting the premium somehow
Milo
I would try esure direct - I can't see why they wouldn't quote you. If they won't, try FirstAlternative as they will insure higher risks (and Milton Keynes )
Biscuits
Just a word of warning with CONFUSED.COM If you use Confused to get a quote from several insurance companies, your not getting the BEST deal available. If you then call for instance Admiral to see if you can improve, their hands are tied as they've already quoted through Confused... and will not budge ! I ended up with Admiral for the S4...... but it was a shed load more than "£400 with a £150 excess" !
Petem95
Tesco were generally the cheapest insurers for a number of years, but its nolonger the case. Im insured with Directline and pay £625 with a £150excess, and thats 25 with 0 NCB (previously had a company car) and an SP30 4years ago. The only company which could get close to the Directline quote was Admiral.
EssFour
I find that most insurers give you a good deal when you take out a new policy then up the ante come renewal time. Tesco were my insurers for my old S3 (35, 3pts, 5yrs NCD, garaged)and that come out at £546. For the S4 they were asking £900...! Shopped around and found swiftcover to bethe best coming in at £675 which is not too bad.
Sparky
I tried Esure. Rubbish. Never heard of a Audi A4 TDI (130) Saloon Sport. I couldn't add it either. Egg still the cheapest for me at £
Chav
Hi Mark, I'm 34, 3yrs NCB, and with DirectLine mine is under £700 a year now! No complaints!
PetrolDave
I just got the renewal quote from the AA (actual insurer is Norwich Union) for my S4 - and it's gone up from £903 last year to £1108 this year. Silly thing is I went onto the AA website and they quoted me £908!!! Got lots of other online quotes (highest was £1433 - they have got to be kidding, MoreThan & eSure won't quote on an S4), and decided to go with Liverpool Victoria (via What Car!) - their quote was the lowest £798 AND offered guaranteed NCB protection for life, 180 days foreigh travel, guaranteed loan car, free legal assistance. Seems a good deal to me... Have written to the AA telling them I'm not impressed with them sending me a renewal quote that is 25% higher then their own online quote! Chrisg
[ QUOTE ] Tesco were generally the cheapest insurers for a number of years, but its nolonger the case. [/ QUOTE ] agreed were good for a number of years ( her 1.8T quattro Sport 1999) but renewal came through about two years ago and was a couple of hundred more than my only a few months old S3
P_G
Royal Sun Alliance via Adrian Flux, modified 2004 S4, 32, 1 SP30, 7 years protected NCD (although only needed 4 for the policy), change from £750 (with £500 excess) If your car is unmodded the cheapest I found was Swiftcover.com who quoted me £640 unmodded for the same car and circumstances with £250 excess. bec21tt
Privilege is the cheapest for me, £500 29yrs old, 7yrs NCB, one accident in '03, for a 1.8T Quattro Sport Cab
phardy
I also found esure to be the cheapest last time we renewed. £408 for the wife and me, both 30 and both got 3 points. Audi A4 1.8T Cab. Always found www.moneysupermarket.com a good start for insurance, loans and other financial matters.

P_G
That's fairly pricey too Dave, you're marginally older than I am , have more NCD and mine's modded and your still paying more than me. Then again I seem to remember someone is paying less than I am for an S4 as well; I think it's about time we collated info and saw what we could do to get everyone the best deal on a particular model of car, say an S4? I think we need a TSN GB on S4 insurance
P_G
True, S4 drivers, could you all give us your quotes, insurers names, ages and basic details? I think it's about time we all got a better deal for our next renewal's and buy the person with the cheapest quote a big drink at the next meet local to that person?
