stevie_d
I can't find any recent posts, so apologies if there are any. How have you guys run your cars in? I understand that VW specify a running in period of 1,000 miles under 4k rpm??? Do you tend to start off with low revs and then build up at the mileage increases? I'm asking because I don't know if I'll have the restraint to keep her under 4k Hey, I may just plan a huge road trip and run her in on one journey
RedRobin
The Handbook gives full advice/recommendation. Hang on in there cos I want to take this opportunity to try something with my new (toy) digital camera - I'm going to photograph the page and post it here to see how well it transfers. stevie_d
Cheers Red! I've been looking everywhere for a .pdf of the manual (anyone know where I can find one???) as I'm a bit geeky and want to read up on the car, but know that I won't want to be reading when I get her
RedRobin
Here goes.... Not much more than 15 minutes from beginning to end....taking pic, load onto Mac, upload and resize to suit TSN et voila!
stevie_d
Cheers Red, you're a star...Now if you can just photograph and post the rest of the manual Although I am annoyed at the fact that I can't tow a trailer in the first 1,000KM, I only bought a GTI to tow a caravan p.s. I wish the dealers gave as good service as you!
RedRobin
I'm pretty sure that a pdf of the Handbook doesn't exist and although I've got the capability of creating it I ain't gonna!! - Far too much work to do so! I just wanted to see how well my F11 Fuji FinePix could cope with a handheld non-flash close-up of a white printed page. I don't know what you guys are viewing the internet on but the handbook page is all crystal clear on my Apple Cinema LCD. Now I'm sounding like a big poser geek so I'll shutup! Back on topic, by using DSG's D-mode you'll find running in even easier because the car's DSG programming will keep your revs down within that economy mode - S-mode is red zone stuff (and great fun!). Just be patient.

RedRobin
Well of course I'm a poser! The fact I drive a Throbbin' Red Mk5 GTI with Quads should have told you that!
Rayza
Red - The page has come out crystal clear. Looks like a really good camera (toy) you have there. Stevie - I am currently in the running in process (500 miles done so far) and yes it is pretty hard to keep the revs down, but on the flip side I am learning about the car and especially the DSG and seems sensible to slowly push it further and further. But what a car is all I can say.
bal5sidhu
Same here - just over 500miles so far. Its not easy - occasionally the revs ping to 3500-4000 and the ensuing guilt trip is a bummer!I think ive gone easy on the brakes - hard to be sure...Mrs drove it about 1/2 mile once and kept stamping on them - some raised voice action went on there . Top whack so far is 80mph on motorway
RedRobin
Also don't maintain a speed for long periods (M'ways) but vary it. Sorry, I've forgotten where I heard that. None of this is critical. When run in, always let the water temp guage reach normal and then the oil temp will be okay before you do any sporty driving. Likewise it's good habit to drive your last mile gently to allow the turbo to spin down. All this quickly becomes habit.
CageRattler
Oil temperature will definitely NOT be at normal operating temperature when the water temperature gauge first reaches normal after starting from cold. One needs to give the engine at least another five minutes or so before the oil temperature is okay for hard driving.
RedRobin
Ah! As much as 5 minutes? Thanks for correcting me and keeping us all better informed if this is the case.

[/ QUOTE ] by taking your foot off the accelerator at times you promote extra upper cylinder oil lubrication due to reduced pressure in the cylinders i.e. it's a suction like effect. Rayza
Cheers for the info guys. Haramkor (nice name) - Yeah I know the guilty feeling too well. Got a little excited yesterday and pressed the accelerator a little too far and it kicked down to 4500 - 5000 revs!!!! (it was nice for the brief half a second)
