Tailgate Light

Make: VW

Model: Polo 1.0E

Year: 2001

Engine: 999cc

Engine Code: ?

Mileage: ~44thou

Red Tailgate lamp on dashboard at first started to show dimly then brighter, now usually constantly on (when ignition on).

What actually actuats the switch & must do the boot light also? Can only see a lock flap (no 'plunger' like previous Polo) which I suppose has a microswitch behind it (but can't see)?

Any clues please. Ta.

It may of been a loose or poor connection. I'm no expert on VW wiring, but if its anything like Ford or Vauxhall, its normally bad contact or switches that have packed up. Your local dealer should be able to tell you where the tailgate switches etc are, or stick a post in the polo forum with the questions. 169144-ok.gif

I know its a polo, but theres a common fault on Golfs whereby the rear window washers leak onto the switch inside the tailgate and gradually short it out, thus giving a warning on the dash. This is normally accompanied by the alarm going off at random! just a suggestion. 169144-ok.gif
