yerodretep
Make: VW Model: Polo 1.0E Year: 2001 Engine: 999cc Engine Code: ? Mileage: ~44thou Red Tailgate lamp on dashboard at first started to show dimly then brighter, now usually constantly on (when ignition on). What actually actuats the switch & must do the boot light also? Can only see a lock flap (no 'plunger' like previous Polo) which I suppose has a microswitch behind it (but can't see)? Any clues please. Ta.
yerodretep
Engine COde: wuwzzz6NZ1Y162027 Tialgate light starts off as dim gets brighter within a few minuts to full brightness. Can see (just ignition on) it go off as boot lid shuts ... its not the flap as tris that stays on, but can't see any microswitch!....unless it's a mercury switch! yerodretep
Tried wigling the fuses above the battery this lunchtime & it wasn't on on the way home...could that be it ?
hotdog
It may of been a loose or poor connection. I'm no expert on VW wiring, but if its anything like Ford or Vauxhall, its normally bad contact or switches that have packed up. Your local dealer should be able to tell you where the tailgate switches etc are, or stick a post in the polo forum with the questions.
sotty
I know its a polo, but theres a common fault on Golfs whereby the rear window washers leak onto the switch inside the tailgate and gradually short it out, thus giving a warning on the dash. This is normally accompanied by the alarm going off at random! just a suggestion.
daz60932
Yep, what sotty said, the washer pipes leak in three places on the polos, by the abs pump int he engine bay, behind the carpet on the passenger side of the boot and inside the boot trim which causes water to get onto your boot lock sending it mad
