rhyds
Over the weekend I went to watch the tour of Epynt. It's a tarmac stage rally over the MOD ranges near Llandovery, the entry consisted of a lot of interesting machinery, including Darrians, Minis and about 4 MG Metro 6R4s (I can still hear that exhaust note now) Anyways, the car that would most interest the members of TSN was a hybrid audi A3 3.0 V6, using a de-stroked 3.2 unit, and with the engine a-midships, it was chewing up the tarmac at a fair old pace, especially with an engine that'll rev to 10,500 RPM It didn't get a good result on the day due to an incident, so the 6R4s came out on top this time I haven't found a good hyper-linkable pic yet, so this will have to do David Kynaston's A3

Soapsuds
Mk2 'Scort and 6R4 metros!!! Wicked motors in their day!
garcon magnifique
Still wicked motors now - in the right hands they can still win decent rallies. A few years back we went to the Grizedale rally - might have been the Mcrae Stages come to think of it - and the winning car was a local in a Cosworth engined Mk 2. A minute ahead of a gaggle of Mitsu Evo VI's.

garcon magnifique
I wouldn't mind doing a proper rallyschool day myself. Had an hour in the 206's at Silverstone recently as part of a corporate day, but that's not quite the same as a full day in a forest somewhere. Alot of schools do still use Mk 2's - at a (very!) simplistic level, the rear drive set up is great for exaggerating the handling characteristics of a 4wd... responds well to a good ole scandinavian flick! There's quite a few schools using Imprezas and Evos now too. It kinda depends whether you are serious about learning how to drive a rally car, or just want to fulfil a dream of driving an Impreza down a gravel stage... (if you're serious, you are far better off starting in something you can thrash without killing yourself!)
rhyds
Aye, there were a few WRC's out on sunday, but the old-schoolers were much more exciting I also want to do a rallyschool day, but untill then I'll continue with my own plan: Scrap car and a forest
