NeilB
We all praise or lament the purchases that we have made in the past. But what about the ones you wished to own and had the budget to buy, but never did.
garcon magnifique
I probably didn't realistically have the funds at the time even though it was only a matter of four hundred quid, but one I do wish I'd bought was something my mate turned up in about 15 years ago. He'd taken it as a px. It wasn't exactly sporty, but it was very cool in a Blues Brothers kinda way - or at least I thought so. It was a Toyota Crown, dark blue with dark blue velour interior. Think it was a P reg so 1976/7, 250k on the clock. It badly needed a respray, but it was solid underneath, and everything worked (and I mean everything - there were spacecraft with simpler electronics than this thing in 1976). It was a big old bus, had the smoothest 2.6 litre 6 cylinder motor you could imagine, not exactly swift but ran like a dream. Sadly, it passed me by and another guy he knew bought it, resprayed it and ran it for a good few years.

Soapsuds
about 7 years ago, i nearly bought a MINT RWD Toyota Corolla with loads of spares / rally prep'd spare engine etc. for £2.5K. It was at the top of my price bracket at the time, but i bought a Golf GTi instead. Dont get me wrong, i NEVER regret buying the golf as it is still the best car i have EVER owned to this day - and always will be! It's just the Corollas are so rare now and amazing to drive. Wish i had the chance to own one.....
garcon magnifique
Those Corollas were superb! Great revvy (and bulletproof) engine, and best of all - RWD! Alot of them died doing what they did best at rally schools.
shao_khan
Couple of years back we almost signed on the dotted line for a new MAseratti, but eventually the depreciation put us off, still we we had gone for one though

v15ben
My Dad's almost purchase of a Flat on Leeds Riverside - one of the first ever built in the late 1980s. On the market for £40k, now worth big big money. Its not a car but it would have been a bloody good investment!

Thorburn
Got offered a mothballed Mk1 Escort ex-rally car with Lotus Twin Cam engine for a few hundred quid by a farmer who wanted rid of it from a barn. Dad wouldn't lend me the money. It sold for a LOT more than a few hundred quid at auction!

mulkbear
Around a year and a half ago i had to buy 4 mini's which all need some work from a guy who's Mini Restoration garage went under, A pick up mini with a 1275GT engine in it A Mini Van (old style with the crazy gear stick) A Mini Clubman 1275GT (in orange) A Mini Mayfair (Mint but the engine had been cooked) Plus a load of spares(Wheels bucket seats etc etc) I could have got the lot for £1000 but i had two cars on the drive way and one in the garage so i had no space for them. I wish i had got them

scooby_simon
Some time ago; I spotted a 912 on ebay first thing in the morning, faffed a little and did not bid. Later in the day I had another look and it was still fairly cheap. Decided I might make a bid later, then got busy and forgot. It went for £6850 1966 classic for just under 7K - I am an idiot....... bazza_g
does it have to be car related? many moons ago I was told about a sex wonder drug made by a company called Pfizer - they expected great things and was told buying shares would be a good idea. I remember clearly laughing at the idea of a sex wonder drug.
MOSE
But Pfizer had stiff competition Bazza, so you made the right choice.
