rs32
Just to alert everyone who may be ordering a Mk5 Golf with the Luxury Pack (Dimming mirrors / puddle lighting / elec folding on #2). Picked up new car 10 days ago (specced lux pack 2) and the passenger side mirror did not have the dimming glass. Asked for this to be ordered and fitted today but it turns out that VW have now issued a statement to the dealers confirming that the dimming glass is driver's side only. Am arguing the case - especially as I've paid for both in the option price, and also the sales guy said (incorrectly) that the new glass was delivered last week. so beware ! TP27
Good update, sorry you had to find out the hard way. My dealer called me this morning to say VW had updated them on this change as it's on the spec for my new R !!
rs32
just had the same conversation with the dealer as you TP, the spec change apparently affects vehicles already built even though VW only communicated this yesterday. expecting mine to be resolved, but I suspect the dealer will be the one putting the effort in. all blamed on a brochure "misprint". cheeky feckers. AGK512
All sounds a bit cheeky ... can you order the nearside one as a spare part ? is it just the glass or does it involve the motors as well ?
rs32
it's not possible to order one as a spare part according to VW. So I asked the question "then how do they fit the drivers-side dimmer to left-hand-drive cars" and they didn't know the answer. The best they could come up with was some about it needing a different ECU, wiring loom and mirror electronics . What a load of rubbish - surely it only needs the new glass and 1 extra electrical connection from the glass to the dimming control unit/relay/switch. Am now expecting a cheque back for the full cost of Lux Pack 2 so I've given up on resolving the passenger side. My overall impression is that retro-fitting the passenger-side dimmer would cost between 2 and 5 times the cost of the whole Lux Pack, so they're taking the cheapest way out. One thing I did think of after they offered me money back was that when driving at night in France/Belgium/Germany etc. it may be safer with a right-hand drive car to not have the dimming glass. On the drivers side it is OK as you can judge distance fine with a dimmed image of the road behind, but because the passenger mirror is further away this may cause judgement problems esp. on fast Motorways. So despite my intial disappointment I may have ended up with the best compromise anyway.
AGK512
Well hope you get your money back ! Good point about the euro stuff as I go at least one a year Cheers
Rayza
Yep same problem on mine. Aparantly they stopped passenger side dimm mirrors at the production line from week 48 iirc. There is no wiring loom in the passenger side, so to fit one you need the wiring loom which means pulling the dash apart (no thanks). Would of been good if the stealers told us!!
