Hire Car and VW experience.....

Well my wifes Sharan went in for a service. This is where VW are different from Audi... She drives round in a car that we ordered from that dealer which cost with options over 26 grand. Why is it that my wife is given a bottom of the range Golf plus, and thats pretty good going normally she has to squeeze in to a 1.2 Polo smashfreakB.gif

Audi always give me a car the same as mine or even better. Also the VW dealer can only be described as completely unorganized and well crap! I took the car back for her as a favour. Sorted out the details with the women who the told me everything was in order and handed me the keys, ermm dont you want me to sign the hire car log book? "no sir thats fine it doesnt really matter" erm yes it does, i dont want to be blamed for a salesmen speeding later on. Audi wouldnt let me leave without signing it! They also havent reset the fecking service indicator on the DIS so the car has to go back sometime.

Anyways the car itself, pretty dire to be honest. It had an utterly gutless TDI engine, just said TDI on the back i assume it was the 1.9 (90/110 PS) ? It certainly wasnt the 140 thats in my A3. The interior just isint up to Audi standards and the dash layout was plain ugly. Put it this way i wont be shifting form the Audi brand for a while!

Overall not very impressed with VW they didnt wash the car either. Heres a quick snap of the golf plus i took with my mobile. Pretty fecking ugly imo.

20 MPG is not funny grin.gif

Could be worse you could have the VR6 engine in it ooo.gif

I bet they did not change the pollen filter on it, it is a 30min job that they cannot charge extra for, so some of the bad dealers in the dealer network just throw the new one in the bin, but at my dealer the company gives me extra time to fit them.

We looked at the VR6 Carat, very bad torque steer and fuel economy put us off. The only problem with have had is the heatshield of the exhuast seems to keep comming loose.

And (God forbid!) some Audi dealers are at least as bad!

In fact the general impression I get from "other" people (i.e. not Audi fans who appear to have found a decent dealer) is that VAG in general are not that great. Far better than Merc, but a long way to go to match Jag, BMW and Lexus.

Of course, that is a generalisation (allbeit a statistical one), as Mulbear says, no two dealers are the same. Bottom line is, if you've found a good one stick with them!!

BMW seem to score slightly better on the customer surveys, and one or two mates from different areas have tried both their local BMW and Audi dealerships and been happier with the service from BMW.

The thing is,the variance from one dealer to the next is probably enough to make any generalisation all but meaningless.

my mate at work has just had his new Golf 1.9TDi (130) delivered. SE spec, so pretty much all you need on it. I wnet for a spin in it with him the other day and couldnt believe how awfully low-rent the interior was - very plasticy coming from an Audi.

Having said that, my wifes Bora (old golf interior) is actually very nice, well made and 'soft' plastc feel. Why did they go so opposite on the quality?

VW Dealers tend to have a 2 tier car loan service. Tourag and Pheaton (I'll ask McCrombie for the correct spelling) are deemed luxury and you will get almost like for like loan car.

Everything else gets the sh1te, Polo and Golf basic cars.

Each time I've taken a loan car against the R32, it's been a Polo. This being despite verbal assurance when the car was purchased that the dealer would offer good quality cars for loan against an R32 car being serviced.

Not exactly positive PR for VW, but then again, do they care?

I don't tend to get as rattled as you guys. Most Post's complain of VW dealership's being too expensive and ripping you off. Now if they (Dealer) kept a fleet of expensive cars to give you when your car is in for a service, quid pro quo the cost of the Service and other items would have to rise. Then you all complain that the cost of the VW service was too high, and that non franchise agencies are better value.

My 20 k service on my last R32 was £170 inc VAT, they gave me a new Golf 1.4 that drove well, was full of fuel and I was not restricted on mileage. I was delighted !!

You guys just moan too much some times IMHO !! confused.gif

Agreed 169144-ok.gif

It's just a car to get you around for a day.

If you hate it so much, then don't take it!!

IMO, you're lucky to get anything - my car is getting it's rear window washer fixed today & I'll have to wait in the garage whilst they do it, as I'm too young to get a courtesy car. I'd much rather have a polo/golf plus/micra/anything than wait.

i've had a couple of really flithy cars from vw for a day but they got me around while mine was in, as long as i have wheels i'm not bothered. i understand its first come first served on the car thing, one of the ones i had was when i took it in fairly late so i just got what was left, covered in birds poo!
