MOSE
Need some advice on this one guys. One of the niggles with the Monaro is that the standard UK plate is too big to sit on the front, and as a result the plates is prone to bending, snapping, cracking and peeling. I am on my 2nd plate now and really dont want to have to fork out for a third, only for it to do exactly the same thing. So does anyone know where I can source a front plate of 366mm. Have seen them on other MOnaros and HSV, together with a few Exiges and Nobles. Cant be that hard to source can they??
Alastair_A3
www.fancyplates.com Thats what i used for the caterham. Be warned the police dont like them, hence i now use the orginal
MOSE
How long could I way with not having any front plate at all, but keeping the front in the boot just in case?
Alastair_A3
i think you would get into major trouble if you did that. Likely to get pulled over quite quickly. The caterham nosecone would look great without a dirty great numberplate
shao_khan
One of the guys on the newbeetle forum managed over 12 months with no front plate. Another thing is that you could have a set of 'show plates' and a set of 'road plates' made up and use velcro to attatch them, black velcro on a black car would hardly be noticed, if you get pulled "Sorry Constable I forgot to refix my road plate / some scrote must have stolen my road plate but I have a show plate / etc"
MOSE
Thats an idea. I was trying to post a pic of the front of the car up here, but for some reason I cant open any of the pics of my car in the gallery There is a pic there of the front of the car and you can see how much the front plate overhangs. Here is a pic of the size of the plate area, without plate attached and personally I think it looks better. Surely, a plate of this size cannot be illegal?? shao_khan
Many years ago I had a Vx Tigra and had a motorcycle front plate on it - all correct font etc, just bike size - never got stopped once.
Alastair_A3
all i'll say is i got stopped after about 2 months, issued a £50 fine and told to put the old plate back on ASAP.
MOSE
To be honest I thik I will just go ahead and order some from OZ, they make the correct sizes there, but it will mean paying over the odds in terms of shipping them here. Works out to a bout $110aus for front and rear plate with nice HSV logo.
Soapsuds
just type 'show plates' into google - there are loads that will do you custom sizes..... you are most likely to get pulled with dodgy rear plates, with the cops following you.... front plates aint SO obvious, unless its silly spacing etc. They would have to turn around and catch you first! neilp
The DVLA does allow for smaller plates on imported vehicles that have limited space, might be worth checking with them to determine if this is also allowed on UK supplied cars with limited space?
