Getting flashed at!

I think it's because lots of (ignorant dare I say) drivers (not TSNers of course!) stare straight into your headlights! The trick is never to look directly at the lights of an oncoming vehicle....Especially those big trucks with rows and rows of the dazzlers!

I happen to wear amber tinted prescription Bolle glasses for dull English days and night driving and it helps cut any glare and improves visibility.

I get flashed a lot of the time in the R32 - I have adjusted them as far up as I can without Bobby Dazzling everyone, but they're one option on a car I won't go without next time. That and leather and climate. Oh, and a nice lump of metal under the bonnet.

I thought Xenons had to be self adjusting?

They are in terms of being self levelling, but you can adjust the headlight units on the R32 up and down, as well as side to side. Not sure about other cars, but it's the first car I've had with them.

I think you can get Bolle glasses almost anyhwere (or do a Google?), even in your local auto-spares shop (sorry, I won't write the word or go near a Hal..., Half..., Hal.. store since they were found guilty together with Raleigh bikes of exploiting child labour in the Far East).

hmm...reminds me of when I was a youngster in my Honda Civic sekret.gif

I had the obligatory bolt on fogs and driving lamps fitted and was driving down a country lane with nothing but dipped beam.

Car comes round the corner with a full array of driving lamps/fogs the lot on, dazzled the feck out of me, so I figure...give him the works sportifs2.gif

On went the main beam, thus activating the fogs and driving lamps at full dazzle.

What happens?

Turns out it was pick up with a complete array of "Rabbit Spotters" across the roof...all of which the fecker dazzled me withsmashfreakB.giffekr.gif

Hey RedRobin - Can you buy those Bolle glasses in most sunglass stores ?

....Nope. They're a prescription jobby specially for use in sports (but not ski) called Vigilante. You won't get much change out of £200 with prescription but I've also got a mirrored version component for strong sunlight. I first wore Bolle when I used to race bicycles. Oakley used to make an equivalent too but the lens areas were too small imo.

Cheers Red - I'll look into it. The problem I have is the light from oncoming traffic stain my eyes.

Cheers

If you don't need a prescription lens, Bolle make all sorts of sports specs and all quite stylish. Not cheap but excellent quality with UV protection etc.

Amber, or even pale yellow, shades will cut out the glare without cutting down visibility or altering colour - You'll still register amber traffic lights. They also help visibility very slightly in poor light or fog. I've used such eye protection for years.

Another eye protection tip is to wear a cap! When I first hung out with Native guys in Arizona one of them stuck a beaded baseball cap on my head and said "Wear this, buddy....Protection". Works a zillion times better than a car's standard sun visor when driving across flat expanses of land into the setting sun. Also stops light entering over the top of your specs and so further helps visibility. I could go on about the other benefits of wearing baseball caps!!
