TheEdge
Hi all ive ordered some michelin ps2 at my local costcos but they are querying a code after the size 225/40/18 etc which states the maximum load of the car im at work at the momoent so i cant check my mum who just phoned me said there should be a "88Y or 93Y" after the tyre size detailing this? before they can order them in, this is the 1st ive heard of this!! any advice help would be appreciated thanks
Mook
I run 92Y on mine, but only because that was what the tyre company supplied. The Y load rating only applies to speeds in excess of 150 mph, so I wouldn't worry about it.
Dan32
According to Michelin website, MKIV R32 came as standard with 88Y but they recommend 92Y for Pilot2. Michelin Page
dogbucket
I have 92Y 'extra load' PS2 which seem the most common on R32s, but then people also have run 88Y no problems. I would probably go for the 92s again but for no particular reason other than they must be better in some way
scillyisles
Generally for a high performance heavyish car like the R32 (Mk IV or Mk V) you should choose the higher Load Speed Index rating which in this case is 92Y. In essence the tyre carcass is strengthened to be able to carry higher weight at the Y rated speed which is 186mph (not that your likely to do this) Higher LSI rated tyres should also give a firmer ride and slightly better roadholding as well as being more resistant to pothole damage. The Mk V R32 comes as standard with 92Y rated tyres. The only downside to higher LSI tyres is that they generally cost more.
TheEdge
thanks for advice on this subject ive ordered my tyres based on the existing mich ps1s which were on the car originally, the ordered mich ps2 tyres will be in on Monday at my local fitter, but if they turn up as 88Y im fine with that setting if however the 92Y setting tyres turn up that may be better! will have to wait and see though!
