shark_90
I've settled on two memory cards, a SanDisk 2Gb miniSD for £37.00 or a Samsung 2Gb 150x miniSD for £48.90 The SanDisk card has a tranfer rate of 3mb/sec, where the Samsung one claims rates of 22.5mb/sec. The Samsung one obviously sounds better, but in reality is the phone going to be able to utilise the faster card? As I'll be using it for SatNav I feel a faster card will benefit me more, but will the phone be able to use that kind of speed anyway? Mook
Depends on the throughput of the internal SD card reader. You got the specs for it? It should tell you the xfer rate.
shark_90
Can't find it on the specs page on the manufacturer's website.
Mook
Don't you just love manufacturers... Given there's only about a tenner in it, why don't you go for the Samsung one anyway - bigger company, more reliable? (not that much should be able to go wrong with a solid state SD card)
shark_90
I think I might anyway.. whatever the phone's transfer rate is, with the faster card it'll be able to work at it's highest. I agree there's not much to go wrong, but I've had a couple of the cheaper brands go wrong on me, so I'll only buy branded stuff now
drpellypo
I use Sandisk as camera memory cards, and they are generally considered to be the top cards available. That's speaking in terms of photography though (and their CF cards), so not sure about other applications. I didn't even know Samsung did memory cards. Their microwaves are rubbish though. shark_90
Well I've been looking a bit more since, and the "Samsung" ones keep popping up all over the place with other names in the same sentence, like "ATEK" and other such jap crap. So now I'm not sure if I should plump for one of them or not. Thing is, none of the SanDisk ones are high speed yet.
drpellypo
As said though, your throughput might not be as high as 22mb. People go for 100mb routers cos they think they'll get faster internet, when in actual fact, they'll never get any more than 8mb. IMO, if sandisk don't do any faster, it's cos they know the faster ones wont actually make any difference in their application. Whereas Samsung are just trying to get more sales. shark_90
I completely understand that. But unfortunately there's no details in the specs I'm also aware that they seem very "gimmicky" and with this odd brand name association, it puts me off quite a bit. Sponge
If it's going to stay in the phone and not be used in anything else at a later date, eg a camera, then I would save the money and get the 'slower' one. I have no evidence to prove it, but I'm sure the phone won't be able to take advantage of the cards higher read/write speeds. I'm sure the phones processor speed will be more of an issue when running apps than how fast the card can be accessed. My C550 runs TT5 fine with a 'normal' memory card. shark_90
I'll go with the SanDisk one then, I feel better with a decent brand anyway. Is it TT5.2 you have to run on the C550?
Sponge
Yeah.
