Fergy
To Date been using. Wash and Wax by Simoniz followed by Wax it Wet trigger spray Occassionally ie twice a year been using Super Resin Polish. My question is I hear all the stories about Megs and how good it is. Problem is that there are so many products. So whats this clay bar and when does it fit into the cleaning routine? Whats the 3 stage stuff? Very interested to hear thoughts on what to get and in what order Cheers guys (and gals)
NeilB
I tend to use a shampoo without the wax inside it, such as Megs Gold Class when washing the car. As I hate the wax been on the windows mainly the windscreen. Claying takes place after a wash, and is removing bonded contaminants (i.e. Brake dust and tree sap) from the paint. Washing removes the new contaminants such as bird and mud, but will leave behind these bonded contaminants. To see if your car needs claying, put your hand within a plastic bag. If it feels like glass then there is no need, if it's rough get the clay out. Break a third off, and warm up the clay in your hands by rolling it. Never use the clay with out the lubricant, as it could damage the paintwork. Only light pressure is needed and check the clay bar after each section to see if it has to be kneaded untill it is clean again. If it doesnt become clean after a good Knead then bin it. If you drop it don't use it again on the paint work, but you can use it on your alloys or glass. Three stage is a three stage way of getting the paint work upto scratch again. Stage one is a paint cleaner, stage two is a polish and stage three is a wax. But I have heard people say that the stage three wax isn't very durable, but I don't have any first hand expirence of that as I've never used it. There are products that do this job in one, such as Klasse AIO and Carlack. But rather then provide a wax they seal the paint. You can then add a wax of your choice such as Pinnacle Souveran, P21S, Collinite, Megs #16 etc...

malagus
if you have swirls I would recommend AG Super resin Polish - abrasive enough to smooth the paint off. then there are multiple opinins on waxes. Pinnacle Souveran, P21S, megs, AG, all the good brands (imo) leave a similar enough shine, it just depends what you prefer, and ease of application. tinka
ive just started using the megs stage 1 and 2,then megs#21 sealant, followed by p21s wax, although ill only use the cleaner every other treatment, the paint is a little rough to the touch,so a clay bar will be next, although ive not used one yet, i agree with the majority though, regarding megs, its great. NeilB
You could try Scratch-X to remove the swirls, it isn't very abrasive so there is no worry of taking to much paint off. You could then move upto Poorboys SSR2, Sonus SFX 2 or Auto Glymm SRP. Any of those should be fine. Wax wise. If your car is like mine as it's outside all day everyday, then I would go for the hard wearing Collinite 845. If it's dark then Pinnacle Souveran will bring it up a treat, P21S is a good all rounder for any colour and Megs #16 has to be applied thinly and can be a bugger to use. Ska
I used the same thing as what 007 used a while back to remove the swirl marks from his blue A6: Wash megs Claybar speed glaze dual action polish cleaner then deep crystal polish stage two NXT tech wax topped of with P21s and here are the results on a 9 year old car: me shiny A8
drpellypo
Fergy, if you're anywhere near me (I'm just north of Morpeth), then I'd be happy to show you some techniques/my products if you want. I use a combination of Megs and Pinnacle.
chasdrury
Yesterday I used the following Megs gold class wash, with a lambswool wash mitt Megs Clay bar and quick detailer (took ages!!) Megs gold class wash again Full chamois using Megs drying towel Left to dry and then proceeded with Megs stage 3 application and the results are really really good. I think in the future I might try Megs stage 1 and 2 and Pinnacle wax.. Now I have prepped the car fully, what do I do in future washes after the car is dry? Polish and Wax (stage 2 and 3) or what? Cheers Chaz
johnss8
If your happy with your prep work then don't use anything abrasive just keep washing drying polish when it's going dull but keep layering the wax for durability
